1st of the month and no rent !!

PostAuthor: 38nholding » July 1, 2008, 9:47 am

With all its inherant pitfalls and dangers of owning a home in Thailand, I get a good feeling when the first of the month rolls around and there is no one to hand my money to .
What with stock markets ,the price of oil, exchange rates etc,I think the only place ,I at least held my head above water (this month ) was our home. Anyone feel the same??

Until about 4 or 5 months before I bailed out of the market, I was making substantially more (equal amount as to buy) in interest than I pay for the townhouse so buying wasn't attractive. That said those days seem be gone for the moment so maybe time to build one more house.

Only in Thailand 38. Next month the land and water rates come in for the year, about A$ 1800, thats why I'm doing lots of overtime at the moment :(

I guess knowing that the home is paid for gives a feeling of some degree of security. Of course, little things like food and electricity still need to be paid...

have to agree, very nice, when house paid for and no rent/payments to worry about. still testing the waters out, closer to town, renting, for a year, see if i like living closer, so far, the jury is out. convenient, but haven't really taken advantage. 10 minute r/t to school instead of 50 minutes, the main benefit, and fuel savings, but now renting.

now the sad part. if house doesn't sell by next year, and petrol continues, maybe 50 by next year. the 5000 in rent will cost as much as petrol cost r/t to school from village. so whether house sells or not, may keep the shophouse for convenience. now that's sad. :(

it funny you poster mentioned first of the month also look at the exchange rate on first of the month
you will notice the baht get stronger on the first of the month because us expats cash in our funds from our home country maybe we should cash them in the middle of the month this way we can confuse them
