1st time non imm O visa

Thai and Lao visa laws, help and advice...

PostAuthor: Dakoda » December 7, 2006, 8:10 am

It is widely accepted on the very popular Thaivisa.com website that a non-imm visa is darn near impossible to obtain in countries neighbouring Thailand and most applicants have been told to apply in their own country.

Gee, glad I didn't know that before. In the last year have been given three 90 day Non "O" from boarder countries, and been refused once (which was posted on thaivisa), and given a 60 day tourist visa.

best to get your info by following

The advice to stop by the immigration office would be warranted for absolute confirmation on your needs!

Thanks to everybody.

I have a 2 months tourist visa expiring Jan 1 2007, marriage sertificate, a letter from aek udon stating that my wife will have a child early march, wife's ID and house registration, a self made map and some pictures of the thai marriage, house and so on.

Immigration in Aek Udon said I can change the visa to non imm O in Bangkok. Can I do this without the 40k statement? Can I do this with only a few days left on the visa? Does my wife have to come with me?

Can anybody show me the post citing documents needed (Diesel Daddy)?

Thanks again.

I think the requirement is to have 21+ days left on visa, but they will (Bangkok) sometimes make exceptions. Would think the more days left, the better the chance.

Does my wife have to come with me?

yes.

Think there is a post here somewhere on the paperwork needed, would think that 40k statement would not be needed to get the 90 day "O, but I am usually wrong, good luck.

Why I say no on the 40k statement is that first you need an Non "O" so that you can apply for the year marriage visa, so when received from a boarder country, they never asked for this. But by going to BKK you are going to be the first person to be using the new rules. So maybe you will be doing two steps in one stop. In other words, they give you the "O" and at the same time apply for the marriage visa, so in that case you will need the 40k statement.

Being the first, please post back on how it went, might be doing same next month myself.

Dakoda is right on it:

My neighbour did exactly the same about 3 weeks ago:
He changed his visa in Bkk to a non-immigrant O
He did not need to give proof of the 40K per month (this is not needed for the non-immigrant O)
But they told him to make sure that he had the 40K statement when he was going to come back for his marriage visa.

Thanks cookie for the info. Could you also ask him two questions;

1. what type of visa did he have (assume tourist visa) :?:
2. How many days left did he have on his tourist visa :?:

thanks in advance.

This is not info most of you want to hear but this is what I have done.

I just got my new 1 year Non-immigrant "O" multipul entry visa. I actually talked to the lady here in Houston and this is what she told me.

1. Wife (US Citizen of Thai Nationality) and I tried to renew it at immigrations from Nong Kia.

A. wife was told she could renew hers in Thailand with no problem for the remainder of her years if she chose. No problem
B. Was told if I wanted a one year I had to go to my home country of record. Told me I could possibly get a 90 day in Laos or Singapore but it was up to each Embassy.

I ask the lady in Houston and she told me he was absolutly correct.

I ask again what was needed by your home country and the answer is only a marriage license, an application and $125. No age requirement, no money requirement, no physical. The only requirement to keep it current is leave every 90 days and come back. Actually can make the visa come close to 15 months if you watch what you are doing.

Is this good for all? No!!!!

Does it work for me, sure I like to visit the family. To be honest to see some of the money and headaches some go thru to get the retirement visa or renew the 90 "O" visa, it would be a lot cheaper and a lot less hassel.

Happy visa hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agree, if i was making yearly visits to states, i would do the same, used to just mail it to consulate, basically copies of previous work saying all is the same, and visa would arrive next week, way too easy. actually if all paperwork is squared away, the hoops nong khai wants you to jump thru aren't bad for extensions, especially if having no desire to return to home country. not that i would condone/recommend this, but someone, not saying who :D 8) :D even mailed it back to states one time for renewal of multiple entry yearly marriage visa. when that person left and came back in at immigrations, agent was looking for exit/entrance stamp near date of marriage visa, thank god for long line behind me, he gave up and just stamped it. :D :D

i'll find out in couple weeks, due the 23rd for renewal of retirement (3rd time), don't anticipate any problems. if i have any problems, i'll get VOA from laos and do it in bangkok, as i always have vacation in march anyway and down there.

You are so right LA. you know I have dealt with Nong Khai immigrations three times to get clarification of issues I had. You know they have been friendly and very helpful every time. Of cource I had my visa correct and was asking how to keep current. I do not know why they were friendly as each time I have been there, there is always one one or two falangs that do the yelling thing or telling them why they can not follow their own rules. Of cource it gets them nowhere as it seems the ones that do the yelling are always overstayed their visa and then have the gall to yell. [-X

Again for me the folks from Nong Khai immigrations have been very helpful and informative. =D>

I have recieved conflicting information from the folks at Nong Khai but I stay cool about it and everything works out in the end. No use getting flustered. It doesn't solve your problem. They have been helpful and informative even when the information varies between agents. No different that dealing with Homeland Security, CIS or any US immigration/customs agency.
