If that were the case I would have done that - because I have no intention of leaving !

Yes, I agree with what Doc says. And I got a single entry Non-O visa in Vientienne in April. It is a 2-day process and I had to stay overnight. The next day, I picked up my passport and new visa. I came back into Thailand in a few hours and that visa was used.

However, I never have to leave Thailand again, should I not want to. I just go to the local Thai Embassy either at Aek Udon or Nong Khai and get 1-year extensions forever. The first extension, of course is for 9 months, but from then on, it is a yearly process.

Because I am not much of a traveller to neighboring countries or to my homeland, I chose this as my best option. Should I want to go out of Thailand, I go to Thai Immigration, pay 1000 baht and get the re-entry permit and thus not interrupt my current visa. Not a bad deal considering the 1 year extension only cost 1900 baht.

So, Paul, it sounds like you want the single entry Non-O visa. I am not sure what the process is to change from the multiple, which is what I think you must have. Good luck :)

Pop's, I am sending a scan of what I am told says "retirement" above my extension stamp as I mentioned on my post, December 22, 2006, 4:22 pm. It is the red colored thai writing on top of the scan.

Once the Visa has been issued, it cannot be changed from multiple to single entry. However, it can easily be changed upon renewal.

Thanks Mainer, I don't have it on my extention nor does the visa indicate that I am not allowed to work. Thanks Doc, just read your post about the "S", been wondering for along time what it stood for. That all that has been clear up for, back to the rest of the posts.

You are confusing the subject now.
If you have a single entry non immigrant visa - then I am 99.99 percent sure that when you entered Thailand and used that visa at your port of entry - they will have given you a stamp which says you can stay here for 90 days and then you MUST leave. If you want to come again you will have to buy another visa from outside Thailand.

What you have now introduced into the topic is an extension. It would appear that you have applied for (and received) an extension to your visa and no doubt have satisfied the requirements for whatever particular extension you have received.

So - you are not staying here indefinitely on your single entry visa, you are extending it each year - which is what most people here do (including me)

For anyone unsure about the visa rules and regulations - A single entry non-immigrant visa will give you ONE 90 visit which can be activated anytime within the validity of the visa (usually one year). After this 90 day period you MUST leave Thailand - UNLESS you apply for an extension prior to the expirey of your 90 days.
If you do not leave by the date stamped in your passport (90 days after arrival) and have not applied for an extension at an immigration office - then you begin to be on overstay. A very serious situation which can result in detention and deportment.

Do not misinterpret this thread and believe that you can get a single entry non-immigrant visa and stay here as long as you like. You will find that it could be most unpleasant.

I assume you are on a "retirement". In that case it is 90 days from the date stamped in your new extension...

But to be sure go talk to the guys and do not rely on hearsaying.... And specially not any information comming from Thaivisa.com, since it is seems to be a forum for drunk Britts who just makes stuff up over a few beers.... But I can be wrong there....

When I received my 2nd extention it was stamped with the following:

NONGKHAI IMMIGRATION OFFICE
APPLICATION OF STAY IS PERMITTED UP TO 8 AUG 2007
APPLICANT MUST LEAVE TEH KINGDOM WITHIN THE DATE
SPECIFIED HEREIN OFFENDERS WILL BE PROSECUTED
Signed Immigration Officer.
it was stamped 29 SEP 2006 and I wasn't informed to report in 90 days.
I reported anyways, on 25 Dec 2006. I filled out the TMP47, waited about 15 minutes, my number was called, gave the immigration officer the TMP47 and my passport. Immigration Officer tore off the bottom portion of the TMP47 (Receipt of Notification) stamped it "NOTIFICATION IS NOT EXTENSION OF VISA ON YOUR PASSPORT THE NEXT ON 26 MAR 2007" which is when I report for my next 90 days.

Basically, report in at immigration at AEK Udon Hospital or Nong Khai from the last time you visted for your extention or 90 days unless other wise told by the immigrations officer

Correct! AND If you leave the Kingdom your reporting cycle starts again 90 days from your re-entry date.

Be forewarned, if coming thru the airport in Bangkok, they have quite a bunch of new trainees. (might be good later on as more slots open). My last trip out of the country, I got a trainee who only wanted to give me 30 days. Wife ask her to clarify with supervisor who straightend this out with no problem. Everybody has to be a trainee, we just need to be alert more if you have one. By the way, where the name usually goes on the counter, they had trainee. Did not see this until I was next in line. Would I have traded lines. I doubt it. Like I said everybody has to learn and the person was nice when asked to ask a supervisor to confirm what was right.
