So I dropped in to see the nice staff at aek udon ,suffering from chest pains(must be from throwing rocks at chickens at 3 a.m.). So the office being empty(on the left as you enter),I stated my business to the 7 staff members, and went and sat down. They peered into the empty room, looked quizically at each other, and yup,you guessed it,they picked up the phone and phoned the empty room. TIT
This went on for a few more minutes until another staff member peered into the empty room and actually stepped into the room (maybe there was someone behind the door.)She returned to the counter to converse with her cohorts, and yup, wait for it, picked up the phone, and called the same empty room. I went to Paulo.
My question is, are these the people you want to greet potential customers after your yearly advertising bill is in the possible millions of Bhat ?? hilarious
Thank God the water is cheap

They should have an emergency room at AEK and that is where a person with chest pains should have gone!BP,EKG and an Xray of the heart to check for size would have been the order of the day!

If you went to the regular reception area ,no one there would probably know what to do other than the simple tasks they are hired to do,like take information etc.

Maybe the phone rings in more than 1 place. If you ring the secretaries at my work it rings at 2 of their desks at the same time if if they don't answer after a certain number of rings it forwards to their boss.

have been to aek udon/paolo/wing 23/udon (gov't) after hours, and always attended by intern, who know about as much as me. never saw trama staff or docs, though not really looking. but took grand ma ma in couple late times, she could pass at anytime, an script, take two, if dead, call me in the morning. 8)

so if you plan on anything life threatening, wait till 9am ish, when docs arrive. :D

38nholding, Could it be that you went to the Insurance office, rather than the reception counter? Though I note you went on to refer to the 7 staff that were present, - presumably in the general reception area.

What time was this then?

I'm very surprised at their inefficiency in this case. I've always found them spot on and always seem to know what they are about.

They certainly do have an ER and boast 24 hour care and even have a helipad if an airlift is needed.

AEK Website - ER & Trauma wrote:Aek Udon International Hospital specializes in management of medical and traumatic emergencies and has a large emergency room with 15 beds and is fully equipped with modern medical equipment e.g. cardiac stimulators. Our two ambulances fully installed with advanced medical equipment are available on a 24-hour basis. In case of critically emergency, our experienced medical team could operate a medical airlift program.

At AEK I always go straight to the International Dept. (help cut through the red tape and frustration). If no one is in the office, I telephone them on their mobile: 081-954-0954.
IMO, the girls at the reception desk are nothing more than "hospital eye-candy", especially the one with the pouty lips. :D
Aside from that, how are you 38nholding?

AEK is great 9am until 6pm and then things decline dramaticaly. Some Docs fantastic and some not so great. A friend had hip replacement and he also fixed my broken hand. The ortopedic surgeon is the best! The urologist consult specilalist not so great as he failed to read the ultra sound that showed a tumor in the prostate and prescribed 3000 baht of anti biotics without a culture test. Consequently, on my way back to America for surgery.

The International Dept.'s mobile 081-954-0954, is usually answered 24/7, by one of the English speaking International Staff.

Cardiologists at AEK? Website shows two of them on their fulltime staff, Drs. Jaruwan and Sumol. Any recommendations or good/bad experiences with either of them? Also, would be nice if either one can speak English. Just need to book an annual cardio checkup.

Good luck with your health issues, 38nholding and sparky. Guess going back to the states for an operation will be an option for me, if it becomes necessary, after my Medicare kicks in this June.

I have meat on Dr. Samon (Could be the Dr. Samoi you mention). He seems to be pretty good. Highly competent and a fairly good listener in my book.

It has been said that another heart specialist, who only arrived in Udon recently, is not liked by patients or staff. A report from a neighbor of mine was very negative.

Rick I want a doctor who is good at what he/she does I don't care if they fail in the personality test
as long as I get good medical care (professional care) I went to watana for a problem the doctor seem nice but after my surgery I would not let him cut my finger nails any more he screwed it up big time now I have to do it all over again

I would like to reinterate that chest pains are a problem that should take you to emergency, not the international desk or the reception desk!

Fully agree! Not a good idea to leave a hospital with chest pains unless you're in an ambulance going to a better hospital (or to a better world). :D

Thanks for the info, Rick. Will ring up Dr. Samon's number for an appointment.
