Well I went directely to emergency and was admitted on arrival, armed with my dvd of my angiogram, and a letter from the cardiologist from Paulo, with words like ,chronic, asap,in my opinion.Six days later they operated and I recieved my triple bypass. Two vessels used from the inside chest walls and one from the lower left leg.
Coming out of the drugs I thought I was being held against my will and tore out all my tubes. 4 Days after surgery I was released. Thats about as easy as it was. oh, except for that first sneeze,I thought I had been shot in the chest by a 38,wow ,that hurt.
Great care ,fantastic hospital,am now back in Udon . Amazing. Thank you for the support and the p.m.
But I was amazed that they had a price list on the wall for those unfortunates that have to pay,and initial price for bypass was 5200$ or abot 150000 bhat? Thanks again for the support. Sorry I was not able to get near a comp for awhile. :D

Mort fly back to the UK you have socialized medicine which in my opinion is good the USA has nothing and those with money complain about getting social plan like the UK & Canada

That was the price for anyone flying into town. The price for the flag waving canuck(me) 0.0$The point was that for those who have to pay,it is cheaper to go to Canada.
Not that money has a lot to do with it. But it does for me. Had I not had the option,I would of had to have it done here .Nice to be back.

Good to hear that you were able to get the medical care needed and on the road to recovery, 38. Bet you're glad that you didn't opt for the seven stents now, anyway.

I'm also unable to get health insurance over here but have signed up for Medicare in the states just in case the other shoe drops and I have to go through something similar to 38's experience. Hopefully, won't croak on the plane going back. Read an article in the Bangkok Post a few days ago about people dying on planes. Most airlines just cover you with a blanket and continue on to the next scheduled airport. Mentioned that they used to stick the dead person in a toilet but hard to remove them after rigor mortis set in. Sorry if details are too gruesome.

I'm glad to hear that you finally got the surgery behind you. Being admitted through the emergency room is not the best way to get into a hospital, though its often the quickest.

I'm also glad to hear that they did a bypass instead of installing half a dozen stents. Although the bypass is more traumatic, I would guess that it carries fewer risks, especially over the longer term.

And yeah, that first sneeze seems to have been an experience to remember - it probably reminds many of us of similar events in our lives.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery from your surgery!

Strange comment you make here Rickfarang!

I suffered a myocardial infract and was treated at Bumrungrad (thrombolysis) Diagnose was "you need 4 bypasses, can't be done now, need to wait at least one month after infract"

Was moved by insurance company to my home country/town uni hospital, worldwide renown for cardiology. Got angioplasty again and two stents implants. When I mentioned Bumrungrad diagnosis prof De Werf (angioplasty) looked scared, indeed two of his students work at Bumrungrad as cardiologist, 50k baht item "doctors fee"on my Bumrungrad bill was from these two khuns

Edit:

Did not read 38's other post on his coronary problem.
7 to 12 stents is a lot indeed to worry about.
38: you must be glad you did the bypass op in Vancouver?

The cardio 38 saw at Bumrungrad was not one of the two students.

Bl**dy hell, 38, an op like that sounds like big boy's stuff

Get well soon.

While we're on the subject, I wonder where the Brits would stand with the NHS if they needed an op like this and needed to go home. Would the NHS refuse because they are ex-pats?

You can legitimately get emergency treatment free of charge, along with any other person, including Thai Wives, or Girlfriends.

For non urgent cases, you would need to confirm that you are at that time, residing in the UK again. :D

Ralph, why would a TGF or TW be entitled to NHS treatment unless they had already resided in UK as naturalised citizens or with an indefinite stay visa (this isn't a criticism of you - I'm interested in where you got your info from)?

There was a case in the national newspapers a while back an ex-pat went back to uk had an op on NHS and they found out he was not in UK full time, and sent him a check bin for the amount(although he still had an adress in uk..!!)....had a search around for the story but couldn't find it, so sure there is a time limit you can be out of the UK to still get free treatment.(going by the news story anyway) have had a quick check on NHS sites but couldn't see anything.

As soon as your TW arrives in UK she can go on NHS, even with their first 2 year visa, before they get I.L.T remain.
