A question of proof (Alcohol content of Thai whiskey)

PostAuthor: mortiboy » April 23, 2009, 7:02 pm

Here is a question about proof % in spirit.Being a "regular whisky drinker" \:D/ I have noticed I am able drink "vasts" amount of Thai whisky, and I am as sober as judge!
If , on the odd occassion,I lucky enough to splash out on a scotch whisky:..... J Walker ect.I two thirds pssed on third of a bottle?
Both say 35% proof! my question is, Does Thailand have a different standard of measurement Than europe?
There is definitly a great difference between the two......hic

"Both say 35% proof!"

Alcohol content is expressed in % and prof is usually 2X the alcohol content. Scotch is generally 43% alcohol by volume and expressed as 86 prof and thus the expression "86 him" if one appears to be intoxicated. Or so I'm told;o)

Not had much experience with Thai whiskey, though I have seen the effect it makes on Thai's.
Don't know if this is true, but apparently we have a difference in one particular gene due to the fact that european early medicine was alcohol based, and that's how our gene developed. Maybe it would explain are tolerance to alcohol as opposed to herbal based medicine.

I just looked at a bottle of Thai whatever, and it says 35 but instead of a % sign it just has the little sign we use to express degrees. If it is actually 35 prof then it will only contain 17.5% alcy, about the same as wine.

well I know alcohol makes me act like a real A/H so I don't use it as for tolerance to alcohol
I suspect that has a lot to do with weight and consumption over the years as well as diet and food intake
so I suspect Thai's being of small frame can not drink has much as europeans & americans
