Access problems

PostAuthor: Brian Davis » December 10, 2008, 8:19 pm

Advice please.

I’m having problems accessing the Udonmap site. It always seems very slow compared to other regular sites I use.
Occasionally I get a message that ‘Internet Explorer cannot access site’ BUT I am then able to login.
The most annoying problem is that when I have called up a topic and viewed it, the site locks up when I attempt to move on to another topic and I get the usual ‘unavailable’ message.
I do suspect it is my computer rather than Udonmap which is the problem.
Suggestions (other than buying a new computer!)

Thanks

I don't know if it will solve your problem, but it's often worth clearing your cookies. If you download and run Ccrap cleaner, that is very useful at generally clearing congestion on your PC.

See Computer Problems Forum:-

you can download Ccrap cleaner from:-

Another little laxative for browsing is to clear your DNS (domain name server) resolver cache. It can be done in DOS mode. Click> start> Run then type cmd and press enter... A DOS window opens so type: ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.

You should get a message saying: successfully flushed the DNS resolver cache.

Tis like prune juice... :fart:

Try this tool http://www.iwebtool.com/speed_test it shows the speed web pages take to load. Enter the forum url http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/ on my browser it shows 1.55 seconds page load time. So as far as I can see speed problem is not server side.

I do suspect it is my computer rather than Udonmap which is the problem.

It sounds like you're having connection problems. If possible try an alternative ISP or if that's not possible try clearing your cookies when having login problems.

Thanks all for your suggestions, which I’ve acted on – deleting cookies, flushing cache and taking the prune juice! - but still have the problem of site throwing me out to ‘page cannot be displayed’ after calling up a topic or two, perhaps after a few minutes. I get four green tabs on the loading bar for a different topic, then this occurs regularly.

I have IP Star (being in Phen, when no tel.lines available when I moved here) so not convenient to change. Generally happy with the service, if expensive, and no obvious problems with other websites. I checked download speeds for udonmap and it came up as 0.88 and 1.02 which appears to compare ok with examples Beer Monkey gave.

I’m no computer whizz, so is it daft to suggest it seems almost a ‘timeout’ is causing the problem? It’s not as if I cannot access the site, post etc. The problem occurred yet again as I was drafting this. Very regularly, I attempt to ‘clean’ the computer, to the extent of my knowledge.

Any other ideas?

In case it's of help to anyone else, my access problems APPEAR to have been resolved. I was prompted to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 and haven't been 'thrown out' of Udonmap since. It's early days, but the upgrade seems to have got rid of whatever was causing the problem.
