Yes! I agree.
My post was not meant to be accusing or faulting you Kevro in any way. Please do not take it that way.
My point is/was...you do have options...other than reacting with more violence...the next time you see this guy.

As I said before it is a very unlucky event that happened to you and one I don't think is likely to happen again in Udon. Especially if this particular individual leaves Udon quickly. Personally I doubt if he would even recognise you if he saw you again as it sounds like he was looking for a fight & you were the one person in the bar he didn't recognise - so you were the one.
It is unfortunate that these people exist and, as have some have already said, his problems are undoubtedly fuelled by alcohol &/or drugs.
Personally I agree with you that avoidance is the best policy, so can fully understand your actions at The Clock....
=D> I agree Kevro, everyone handles these situations as they think best, you have nothing to be ashamed of if you stuck to your ideals and whether or not you did, isn't any of our business.Nobody here is our judge,be true to your ideals is my motto! :D

If someone knocks the sh.t out of you, it isnt so much the physical part of it.It can be really distressing for some people.
Many sleepless nights...thinking" maybe I should have fu..ed him off once he started flicking my head." That was a warning of danger for a start!
I was bullied at school .My old man used to slap me too.It made me lose confidence in myself.
After a few years, I got myself together. Now I dont take sh.t from nobody.
If you let them see you are easy, they will have a go.For some reason they enjoy hurting people!
These people are weak in mind ,in so much they cant accept criticism. So they turn physical !
I was in a situation when I was working.I was a supervisor. This ass hole had a go at me.But the company had strict rule about fighting.Anyone caught fighting....straight out the door.
I had a choice, fight back or let him do whatever.(The lad was 4 foot nothing and a pushover)I chose the latter.I ended up like a sack of sh.t.
Many colleagues would not talk to me .Branded me a coward. But If I had fought back, I would not be here now! I would have lost my job and my pension.
It actually took a lot of courage to not retaliate...So hard!
I was never the same after that.Fortunatly I was able to take early retirement.So I chose out.If I hadn't
I would not been able to carry on in my position.I found it so distessing it effected my work.
Needless to say HE got the sack...not me.
Just to say the effects these things can do to someone.

Morti, I'm sure it took a lot of courage to tell people about your experiences on this Forum, - an open forum. You have nothing to be ashamed of, or sorry about. As, I think Stan said above, you have to make your own decisions how to deal with such situations that occur, and there isn't necessarily a right or wrong answer.

The best thing is to put these things behind you, as best you can, and to move on, and live now and for the future. Maybe easier to say than to do, sometimes, but that must be the objective. :D

Morti, your story reminds me of my first job after getting out of the military!Worked on commission in a JC Penney store.I was very ambitious and took up the company policy of handling customers in other sales depts if the sales person was busy with another customer.
The sports dept.salesperson was the local former area superstar sports player and about twice my size.He bullied his way around the store and people were afraid of him.He warned me to stay out of his dept, but since I was within store policy and hungry,I ignored him!

He blindsided me while I was talking with a customer, darn near knocked me out and started to put the boot to me.I grabbed a baseball bat from a bin, broke his jaw and a kneecap.I was fired!

Never could figure it out except that he was a local celebrity and they seemed shocked by the damage I inflicted on him and that I would use a bat to do it.

I never understood, and still don't,the apparent belief that some people have about fighting as many seem to think it is supposed to remain a ''boxing match'' with the rules of the ring.

I have always thought that the best policy was avoidance first, but if you engage, win and do it in a manner that they will always regret that they took you on!

I try to avoid,at all costs, confrontation with Thais because I could be seperated from my family, thrown out of the country or worse! So ones action are really dependent on their most important values at the moment! :D

BKKSTAN,,,,,,,,,,,,, =D> =D> =D> =D> Good for you!! I'll bet that guy has always been a little bit more careful about how he treated others after that learning experience. I'm with you, if someone attacks me or mine unprovoked, they will get the quickest maximum punishment I can dish out. Unfortunately the law doesn't agree and usually insists we respond in like manner to use self defense as a plea. Sometimes you have to wait for the proper moment for a learning experience....... ;) And,,,,,,, like many others here, I've reached the age where I probably should wait for a better moment to teach someone a lesson. You can even say maybe it's better to follow the teachings of SunTzu and wait and prepare the battleground for the proper moment to attack. ;)

gentlemen, yesterday I visited the Irish clock and there I met an englishmkan, slight of build who had been in PJ hospital suffering from three broken ribs, apparantly given to him by a man from either Norway, Sweden or Denmark, this man is so s;light that any blow would probably injure him.

So it is not just an englishman we are looking for but also a Scandavanian with an apparant disregard for other people.
The full facts of the story are a tad hard to ascertain as the p[erson in question does not either really remember or is unsure how to reply.Suffice to say that this is an inoffensive looking guy who seems to be still shocked at his situation however it occurred it is another unwelcome act which is happening here by another farang on a farang and how is this to be stopped.
Soon it will all round Thailand that Udon is the place to go, you ccan have a fight injure people no problem, every lout from phuket to pattaya will come visiting for farang bashing, and as many of us are in the older age range this was a quiet palce now it turning. Action gentlemen but what action and how to deal with this problem needs to be addressed.

That is drawing a very long bow, Paul, and might I suggest it is also unnecessarily alarmist.

Do you have any evidence that crime (either assaults, or property) is on the rise in Udon?

Two (seemingly) random assaults does not a crime wave, or even trend, make.

the A/H made some remarks to which I could not hear I told him to be have like a gentleman and resumed eating my dinner this A/H was 35 yeas younger and a foot taller and much heavier and to my surprise I found out later he was a trouble maker so when you look them in the eye and let them know you not taking there B/S they back down when I walk the streets I walk tall and proud and most important respectful to every one I am 71 and I do not give a dam you show me respect or we are going to the mat

I would also like to say that I think that Khun Pauls post is alarmist, does he honestly believe that all the louts as he calls them will descend upon Udon for with the only intention of doing a spot of "Farang Bashing", that sounds to me as a bit of media sensationalism.

It is my opinion that most these so called hardmen, only consider themselves such after they have had some kind of fortification by the way of drink or other substance, and to suggest that they would come here with the sole intent of having a spot of Farang Bashing, is absolute rubbish #-o #-o
