Another Im question

PostAuthor: BobHelm » September 14, 2006, 8:13 pm

I am back in Udon again, arrived in BKK end of August, complete with my passport containing a multiple O visa that expires in Feb 2007. Filled the visa number in the entry form and have been given a visa stamp that expires in 30 days... :yikes:
Why didn't I say anything then & there??? cause the flight from Doha had been delayed by 4 hours & I had just spent an hour standing in line by what seemed the entire Chinese race & I was happy to be back, so never even looked at the stamp until a couple of days ago!!
Question is, it it worth talking to imm now (will/can they increase the date by another 60 days???) or is it just a trip to Laos & get a new 90 day???

I would most definitely take it to immigration and point out the error. If I am not mistaken they have the authority to ammend the mistake - and sign or stamp it. Any immigration officer worth his salt will see that it was an admin error.
You bought and paid for a certain visa - therfore you are entitled to the correct length of stay.
Surely you should have been given 90 days !

:) Sounds like a trip to Immigration is worth a try, unless you were planning a trip outside the country anyway.A very nice attitude might get it corrected without a problem.Obviously the answer is negative unless you try.Chok Dee,welcome back :)

Bob,
I would go and talk to Immigration here in Udon tomorrow morning. They maybe able to stamp a new date in your passport.

If not, I'm groping in the dark a bit here, i.e. guessing, but if you were granted a Non Imm 'O' in the UK, that will have on it a "must use by date". Assuming that date hasn't yet passed, I don't see why you couldn't/shouldn't exit over the bridge, thus cancelling/using your 30 day on arrival visa, and then return bringing into play the as yet unused Non-Imm 'O" 6 month visa.

That's just my personal logic.

This also happened to me. But I saw it right off, so they (he) scratched out a few things, scribble in a few things, and then I guess scribbled a signture. But I got my ninty days! Trouble was when I left after 88 days, a few phone calls had to be made, with a ten minute delay while it was checked.

Damm right, I would talk to IM, the sooner the better! Don't know if they will increase it, but I bet they can scribble as will as the guy I had!

mine was done on the last entry, which gave me 15 months :!:

and sure you could leave and come back, but thats 1500 baht to go to Laos :!: If you do go, I have a shopping list for the duty free shops

Just to note that at soi San Pluu in Bangkok, they had a special sign pointing people to the room where they corrected mistakes made at Don Maung!

The above makes it sound like no mistake, just following orders :?: Kind of like the mail-in rebates :!:

Thanks for all the replies (and for the fact that no one pointed out what a prat I was in the first place for not checking !!!).
I will go to immigration on Friday in Nong Khai (they are open Friday are they??). If they can't/won't do anything then I will pop into Laos & get a 90 day on the way back...
Thanks again...

at least you used yours. my first o visa i got, when arrived in bkk, didn't write number in paperwork, didn't check to see what they did. then when i went back to states almost 3 months later, was informed to see gent at desk, as i overstayed my visa almost 2 months. huh. no problem, imm agent realized he was dealing with the brain dead, and reminded me not to forget when i come back.

A close friend was given a three month stamp on a 30 day visa run to Burma and immigration later tracked him down to his home here and amended it to 30 days.
As to whether immigration will do the same for a shortfall.Hmmmm.Watch out for four plain clothes guys banging on the door in the early hours.

Sorry Arjay - next Friday, I'm back in Thai mode now!! But I will tell you next Friday - unless I am in Laos that is.
LA, I don't think that I will take that approach, knowing my luck it would be the fine at least!!
Marcus, they would probably be trying to sell me a vacuum cleaner at twice Big C price!!! :) :)

Went to Nong Khai immigration today to sort this out. Arrived at about 8.45 one other guy already sat at one of the desks but no sign of the 3 team leaders. They arrived about 10 minutes later. Gave me a form to fill in (Correction of Visa error, I think). Much photocopying and stamping of both the form I filled in and my passport. Date on original BKK stamp was crossed out and replaced with one for the end of November. All in all spent about 1 hour 15 minutes there. Not an unpleasant experience at all. Much laughing and joking with me once they saw my British passport as to whether I was a friend of Taxins from London.
Thanks for all the advice and instructions, it made it a really easy morning out..
