Hey all. First I'd like to ask about your getting together the first Saturday in the month. Where?
I shall travel to Udon in November planning to meet with a thai lady I have mail contact with and have had for five months. She is a farm girl, living with and helping her parents. She is very nice, does not speak good English and is very anxious for me to come and see her.
She has not asked me for money or anything else except my honesty. There is, of course I feel inclined to say, the age difference that burdens us westerners. And no, I have not seen any tattoos on her pictures. But she has a cell phone, or at least, the family has one.
I do have a feeling this is for real but I won't know for certain until I am there, I know.

As Falang says Give it a whirl and see what happens. Even if not a farm girl I bet she is at heart and most likely was at one time in her life.

PS as falang says can't say I have seen very many internet cafes out in the country.

1st saturday get togethers are at the night market called Preecha Market located at P 11-12 on map. looking at the map, in the upper left hand corner of market, there is a large stage w/vidio screen, hard to miss. walking away from the train station, past the 7-11 and continue a ways, then you will see fruit vendor, some concrete benchs, and couple phone booths and a driveway in, then the market area ends, look right up the driveway and you'll see the stage screen, walk along the vendors to your right and they are numbered overhead. we usually congegete near vendor #20 (carrot) and the main beer garden area in front of the stage/video. easy to find.

Vendor #20 carrot? A picture of a carrot? Maybe that vendor should put up a little sign in English at their stall. "Udonmap meets here" or something. We stopped in the area last week to see if anyone was around and sat down at a card table near the screen with a #20 placard on it that I mistakenly thought must be the meeting place. A pretty li'l gal did bring me a large Leo and even stuck around to pour it into my glass everytime I took a sip which I enjoyed except for the dirty looks I got from the wife. Spotted the Papaguido family at a bench behind us so joined them for awhile. Got a chance to meet LA and Ree later. A nice evening.

As far as the guy coming in to meet the farmer's daughter, choke dee (good luck)!

Jr, I wish you all the best. I was curious if you had chatted with her on any kind of live messenger? Perhaps seen her on web cam? Here is my story regarding that issue. I did get into daily chats with a farm girl. She was always smiling and happy. I read her messages with great anticipation.

When I flew 10,000 miles to meet her, she spoke zero English. So I am thinking, how did this happen? Well, she had someone else typing for her, out of view of the web cam. It certainly was something I could afford, but looking back, I wish I had someone helping me with the ways of the Thai girls.

As those who have posted above have written, give it a try, but be cautious.

Read up as much as you can on such topics as Thai girlfriends, Thai culture, and perhaps more important of all, read about other's foreigner's experiences with Thai women. Unfortunately, those who are easiest to find are neither representative of Thai women in general, nor are they the kind you are probably hoping to meet. Its kind of a natural law.

I have referred some friends to the www.stickmanbangkok.com website and www.thai360.com forum for this kind of information. Udomap.com is pretty good for information about Udon, but there are far more stories about guys who met the wrong kind of girl on those other two web sites, maybe because many on udonmap.com have already been through most of their bad experiences.

Beyond that, the best thing you can to do make sure that this experience results in maximum good and the minimum bad, is to share your experiences with a friend. Somebody who you can bounce thoughts off of, and preferably, one who has been around Thailand for a few years. Though it hasn't been said outright, what we are worried about is the possibility of your being sucked into a scam, much larger than Mainer's taking the whole village to dinner (by the way, this is common and not necessarily a scam.) Only by bouncing your thoughts and perceptions off somebody, can you hope to avoid a huge scam, if this is what your situation turns out to be.

There is a good chance that this is merely an unmarried woman, looking for a way to make her family's and her life better by making contact with a foreigner, and you are the lucky candidate, and it all might work out really well.

Jasmine Fever is the subject of much discussion on a few Thai related forums.

If she is a farmer, there is a very good (90%++) chance that she is extremely poor as farmers are among the poorest class in Thailand. As a wealthy (relatively speaking) person, you will be expected to pay for everything and bring both her and her immediate family up to your standard of living. This is not a scam, it is Thai custom. It is why you will very rarely see a Thai man marry a poor girl or a girl of lower status. If you don't mind spending a lot of money to bring her and her family up to your standard of living, then you shouldn't have any problems.

Good luck but there are better places in the world to find gfs and wives ... (imho)

It's Thailand's great catch 22 isn't it?

I would follow through "farang's" point a little more also. Not just - "not many farm girls have computers",...... but not many farm girls know how to use computers. If you met her through the Internet that might also be something to keep in mind.

I know I'm a cynic, but go slowly and tread carefully!
