3,000 patients after depression Lekima hit two provinces

BANGKOK, Oct 7 - Some 3,000 people are suffering from cold, headache and slight injuries after tropical depression Lekima visited two Northern provinces late last week, according to a senior That Ministry of Public Health official.

Dr. Praj Boonyawongvirot, Permanent Secretary for Public Health, said some 20 medical teams have been dispatched to flood-hit areas daily to assist flood victims.

Over 2,000 patients were found in Phitsanulok province and more than 1,000 in Phetchabun in the past three days, he said, adding that most of the flood victims suffered from cold, headache and wounds.

Some 20 of them suffered from skin diseases, said Dr. Praj.

In Phitsanulok, about 800 people suffered from hypertension, preventing them from having sufficient sleep, he said. Psychiatrists were sent today to help these people.

A budget amounting Bt10 million has been set aside to assist flood victims in future, he added.
