Anti Virus

PostAuthor: mortiboy » July 26, 2008, 9:12 am

I now have 30 small adverts flashing on the left of the home page screen for SPYWARE and no classified adverts displayed at all. Just all these little boxes.
There is so many anti virus products going around! I wonder sometimes If these companies send out the Viruses in the first place.Just to cash in on their products.
Is there a good anti virus product reasonable price?I had Norton anti virus last time but made my computer so slow!" Regcure" is really good. But not really anti virus.Just clears errors on computer.
Can they be bought at computer shop?( On CD)

i use trend pc-cillin, really like it. cost about 50 usd for initial cd/download, good for 3 computers and year update. just renewed at 57 usd for 2 years, so 30 bucks a year for good protection. tells me when someone logs onto wireless conx and i block it from my computer. after having free spybot and another for about a year, bought trend, and it found 30 plus spywares and think 1 harmless virus on first scan.

Thanks for the link BM.
I was in need of a new virus checker as I had a couple of issues with my old one.
AVG looks like a very good product (although the initial virus scan did take a fair old time to complete ).

For Anti Virus protection, I have used Bit Defender (latest version 10) a free version of which is available through www.download.com. Have also used McAfee (Suite) though that was only a trial version, which expired, but worked very well.

I still use Bit Defender on my desktop. My new laptop has a trial version of Norton, so will probably stick with that until it expires and then switch to Bit Defender.

I use or have used Spybot and Spyblaster, along with Ad Aware. All Ok for spyware and Ad ware.

CCleaner has been recommended before on this Forum and is very good for keeping things clean and getting rid of excess cookies and old temp files, etc.

I also have a paid up version of "One Click Maintenance - Tune Up Utilities 2008", which is excellent for keeping things up to date - getting rid of old links, files, spring cleaning the registry, checking if defrag is needed and many more things. :D

I would be more concerned about spyware then a virus I would go to rogue remover and download it and also get ad_aware as well as spy bot and there is another freebie from PC tools called
threat fire make sure you get these from www.cnet.com this way you know they are legit

Try P.C.Tools, they have a few different products, I use the "Spy Docter" which comes with anti virus built in. Costs $39.95 per year, I find it very good. I also use their "Privacy Guardian" and "Registry Mechanic"

Over the last few days I've received a large number of e-mails containing a virus claiming to be either News Alerts from CNN or new IE 7 Updates from Microsoft.

Some were picked up by a junk mail protector provided by my ISP, however some got past both it and Symantec Anti Virus (which is regularly updated).

Fortunately the subject matter of the CNN alerts (so far) have all been about Obama and McCain - so it did make it exceptionally easy to delete them.

I switched to Gmail for many reasons and one was their SPAM mail filter. I looked in the SPAM folder the other day and, yes amongst other things there were truck loads of CNN News alerts.

Is AVG still supporting the free AntiVirus package? I had read somewhere they were dropping it? AVAST works very well and is free.

I use AVG 7 and it is still supported with at least one update per day.
