Antibiotics misused, says study

More than half of all antibiotics are over-prescribed, and dispensed and sold inappropriately, leading to problems of drug resistance and wasting the national healthcare budget, a study has found. Pisonti Chongtrakul, project director of the Antibiotics Smart Use programme, said drug resistance problems caused by over-prescription and inappropriate use of antibiotics to treat colds, diarrhoea and bleeding wounds had become a major healthcare crisis for the country.
