Yeah I guess I would feel sorry for some one killed on a motorbike, probably not someone tossed in jail. Missfortune can happen anywhere in any country. Probably 99.9% of foriegners living in Thailand were not that important in their country of origin other than to family and friends so why would they be important in Thailand. What exactly is your point.

I would be one of the first to say that I believe the falang is seen as more of ''pain'' than a ''pleasure''!But as far as people showing grief for someone or something that is killed or dies,it is not the Thai way except when it is a very close family member that they will truly miss!They feel sorry for themselves and their loss!Might have something to do with the programmed religious beliefs in reincarnation!

I am failing to grasp the importance or the need for this thread unless the Farmer can point to some specific incident that encouraged him to post this stuff. It looks more and more like a case of envy and/or jealousy, but I'll refrain from characterizing it until the Farmer responds. Hopefully, it won't be in something cryptic that is difficult to understand.

The original post is something like a Jason Pollock (abstract) painting where each of us interprets the intent according to his own perspective.

My interpretation and comments:

Farmer: Thais only want farangs for their money. You think they care about your but they don't.

RF: In some cases, true. Generally, Thais only tolerate foreigners because of the direct benefit they bring. Similarities exist in many other cultures. Some love does exist between Thais and Farangs, but it is often very difficult to tell when the love is for the person or the money (as also happens in many other countries).

Farmer: When coming upon a farang in distress, the average Thai doesn't have any more concern for him than he would for a mangy stray dog.

RF: Sometimes true, sometimes not. I have met compassionate altruistic Thais.

recently had an acquaintance who had a heart attack in rural Thailand ,first time here hadnt made a good impression .But the Thai family tried CPR ect and rushed him to hospital ,he didnt make it but they tried .When contacted all the Aussie embassy wanted was his passport no offer of help in sorting out funeral ect ,so that shows just how important you are to your own people ,why would you be any more important to a Thai?
