Athlete's Foot treatment

PostAuthor: rickfarang » March 14, 2007, 4:58 pm

What athlete's foot treatment do you swear by?

I have tried several topical creams that I found a the pharmacies over the last six months, and have only had limited success.

Is anybody aware of something that actually works?

In Thailand they (the pharmacists) seem to recommend, - Myda-B cream, which is what I use. It's in a blue (maybe aquamarine) and white tube.

It's a combined anti-fungal plus anti-inflammatory cream.

Fungal Infections

PostAuthor: wazza » March 15, 2007, 6:05 am

Having see this on a daily basis here in Algeria, and with the warmer weather already getting here ( 55 C in July / August ).

There a few ways to attack this issue

First is a Powder, called Daktarin ( generic name is miconazole nitrate )

this may assist in most cases, if you get it in time.

2nd approach is to use the powder and the Daktarin cream, and rub into together.

Ur now at the stage of needing the feet to be exposed where possible to sunlight etc, to assist with the treatment.

The underlying physiology is wet damp feet.

If this doesnt assist then ur into Anti Fungal oral medications which can be expensive etc.

The commercial powders, arent all that good, what is good is airing of the boots as the fungal infection is still in them at night time etc.

my experience working in the pharmacy i would agree with jetdoc. Lamisil seems like the popular drug of choice and seems to work with most patients. it's an antifungal that works great with athlete's foot.

Almost any anti-fungal cream should just fine. An anti-inflamitory with it sometime makes the redness reduce faster but does really aid in killing fungus. Indeed Lamasil does occasionally kill some resistant fungus and I personally would try that. But more importantly I would emphasize that you should try to keep your feet as dry as possible. If you are wearing footwear try to make sure it "breathes" If you are wearing socks, wear 100% cotton socks. Whatever foot treatment you choose, use it for 4 weeks or it will recur. If your problem persists, then perhaps you have something other than atheletes foot.

Ermmm a friend of mine, yes a friend thats it, has ever since comming to Thailand been suffering from small, itchy blisters on the feet that seem to devlop in clusters. I can only assume it is heat related as it subsided during the recent cold spell.
He (cough) has been to 3 clinics and given a variety of treatments, including the much loved antibiotics, but none seem to work.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and knows of an effective treatment.

If it is fungal and is long-standing, it may require an anti-fungal medication taken orally in addition to the topical.

Here's a question on exactly the opposite - when in Udon I tend to wear sandals all the time 'cos of the heat, my problem is that after only 1 week my feet seem to dry out and 'crack' quite deeply around the edges of my soles and on the ball of my foot, I've tried using Vasaline Skin Care but it doesn't seem to help, and the cracking is bloody painful even when I'm just walking. If I wear socks & shoes it improves the problem - but it's not only too hot, you also look a typical tourist who should have a knotted hankie on your head ! (sorry Yanks, you might wonder about this, it's a Brit joke).
Anyone else have this problem and know of a lotion/potion for this - or am I alone with this problem. As I intend to retire to UT in the near future this is something that I have to resolve.

When I was half my weight and in the infatnry I rember using medicated foot powder by the keg load to fight athletes foot. The trick was to load your sock with it to the point of smoke clouds came puffing out. I think the concept was to keep your feet completly dry with the powder as the antifungal did its trick. I dont ever rember actually getting rid of it completly and I wonder how much of it is comunicable or sticks around on the floors of the shower your shoes, sandles etc.

I get the same cracking heel problem when I just up and start wearing sandals. The amount of calious skin build up is really amazing, not paticularly sexy just amazing. So one day in Thailand while getting a hair cut I was offered a manicure and pedicure for free. My first instinct was to say "no Im a lumberjack and need the extra padding for work" but she was far to cute to run off, she soaked my feet for 30 minutes then whent after them whith a razor blade holding carrot skinner looking thing, she just shaved the cracked calused skin off my feet. I thought I was going to be in big trouble with my new sexified feet but they actual hurt less after. Now I get my feet shaved every couple of weeks and the problem is solved.
Best, Ryan

Gout, Athletes Feet, Cracked hells, etc etc,.... good stuff, anyway i have used a cream called Ellergy plus(for the heels ), but never used it enough i don't think, so it may or may not work...yes useful info that is, i imagine you are saying, so the best method is soaking of the feet and let the skin soften up and shave or grate with an implement for the job, razor blades are good, even when dry you can grate down the skin with a grater (not a cheese one, but will work)so its smoother and this helps a lot and seems to stop the painful cracks.
Seems to be connected with sandel wearing.
