Australia Day 26 January at Jingjoes Bar-Udon Thani.

PostAuthor: tik54 » January 15, 2008, 12:08 am

On 26 January 1788, the Pom's laid claim to a fairly large piece of land now called Australia. James Cook raised the flag, drank possibly Navy rum and ate corned beef.

220 years later on Saturday 26 January, a piece of Thailand will also raise a flag, drink Old Navy rum, eat corned beef, boiled vegetables, white sauce and hopefully bread damper. This will happen at 5pm at Jingjoes Bar in Udon Thani, feed around 6.30pm

Rum will be 50b shot and the feed will be 150b.

If you happen to see HMS 'Endeavour' around Udon, just follow it too Jingjoes.

In commemoration of Australia Day I urge all americans to attend this celebration, afterall, it was americans who killed Captain Cook and promptly ate him. Also his ship, HMB Endeavour, is located in Newport, Rhode Island, ableit at the bottom of the harbor. Who said australian american ties were not strong.
Captain Cook landed in Australia in 1770 and Captain Phillip in 1788 (January 26). Captain Bligh was the governor during the Rum Rebellion of 1808 and was arrested on January 26 of that year.

Sounds like a good excuse for me to pay my first visit to Jingjoes but I need tik54 to assure me that I'll be able to find a game of '2-up', I haven't had a round since my last ANZAC Day in the Philippines. :D

well done Mackayae, you know your history very well. We had sample of corned beef at Steves free bbq on Monday and it was good. Robert says nobody will go hungry on 26th unless you are a convict.

Jingjoes also has Bundaberg rum.
