I had a couple of packets well past use by date, opened them and full of weevils. :(

Same here, have only found raw black beans, red beans, canned red beans and canned baked beans, which some people eat for breakfast  :D

Yes us Brits do indeed Papa - however, in our defence I must say that the ones back in the UK are far,far superior to the make that you can buy in Thailand. The beans are smaller there & some effort has been put into the sauce to actually make it edible rather than added "filler" as is the case with "Ayam Brand". I did actually spot some made by Campbells in the Chinese supermarket the other day, but, sadly they were with sausage in as well - a complete no,no for me....
Has anyone seen Red Lentils in Udon anywhere??? I like to add to my curry to thicken the sauce, but haven't seen in any of the places I would expect...

In the Marines we call those beans and baby dicks. As for Red Lentils, only 2 places I can think of Ngee Soon & MACRO, but I'll keep my eyes open.

At MACRO, all the way in the back between seafood and meat section. There's a section there with dry goods, raw beans, seasonings, etc.

Was speaking to an Englishman the other night, whilst watching the rugby and he has just bought a shop front ( double ) in Soi 7 near King Kong Audio.

He previously had a successful business in Pattaya and is now relocating to Udon.

He has over 135 distributor licences for imported foods, beverages, etc

Cheeses, Meats, Apple and Rhubarb pies , custards, lost it after that !! :D

It didnt sound like this was going to be a mickey mouse affair , brochures out soon ,

The best baked Bean are Brooks, they are made by SPC for Brooks, half the price of the SPC ones but the same inside the can. Similar to the rebranding job they do for the canned peaches.
Much less sugar and salt than AYAM which are way too sweet for my refined taste. :D

Look forward to seeing that, I would have though most of the "in demand" products from the UK had already been taken. The problem will be if its sourced out of the UK by the time its landed here, the prices will be in the stratosphere, particularly for us near destitute gits
Thats where Aust & NZ have a competitive advantage as suppliers, with a free trade arrangement

That's why I buy the low-sugar ones.

Not to sound disparaging toward anyone or their posts, but everytime I see a focus on ''falang food'',I wonder if there are alot of people out there that don't prefer Thai food or just don't like spicey food?

I never focus on falang food ,because I love spicey Thai food, especially when It is difficult to find falang food that tastes anything like the food I used to eat in Falangland!

Maybe ,I am just fortunate to like Thai food so much and it is a heck of alot cheaper too!

Good point Stan, Personally I enjoy spicy food, enjoy Indian, Vietnamese, Mexican etc. But I find little, merit in Thai food and after 15 years here, Its just boring. I mean most of it around here anyway is peasant food.
So when I talk about farang food, I'm mean ethnic Food, really.
Some may find my description of Thai food, objectionable, why then is even the worst of Farang fast food have so much appeal to Thais? look in at KFC or the Pizza places to see how popular they are.

Apart from a couple of items my kids won't touch Thai food with a barge pole, they prefer a Spag Bol to Nam tok moo or a ham & cheese sandwich to Gai Yang & kaw Nio, in fact the only way they will eat much of Thai food is to have it wrapped in a Pita bread or tortilla.
Even the pure Thai kids around our place are coming in and helping themselves to my wholemeal bread and peanut butter to make sandwiches.

I agree BKKSTAN, and whether you like hot food (Thai) or Chinese (mild), the Asian food is so much cheaper and, I think, healthier.

Strange to say, but my very good friend in Udonthani orders takeout food at the Pizza restaurant in the complex a lot because her son (Thai all the way) does not like spicy food, and prefers what he thinks is farang food.

And the boy has become a Liverpool fanatic, which enhances the rivalry with me since Manchester United is the Premiership team I favour.

Last night, she told me that there are many, many farang restaurants and bars in the city now, and that there are all levels of farangs from high class in manners to very low.

Finally, and this might set alarm bells ringing among many of the posters here, she said many of the farang drivers are kwan teen (very poor, well, it means a lot worse than that), and on about the same level as Lao drivers. I have no comment since I do not drive in Thailand but I did inform her of the criticism of Thai drivers found on this site.

Yeah...I know, I know.
