Bad experience at Nong Khai Immigration (non-B extension)

PostAuthor: lee » November 16, 2007, 3:29 pm

After dealing with the unfriendly immigration officer at Nong Khai today (I’m sure you all know who I'm talking about) I now feel reluctant to return and deal with all future B visa extensions at an alternative immigration office.

I visited the Nong Khai Immigration office today armed with a mountain of official forms, countless photocopies, valid work permit and everything else required to extend my visa. However the laws for B visas recently changed since my last visit a couple of weeks ago. The officer spotted this and asked me to submit the required form during my return visit. I asked him to check the rest of my documents to see if everything else was in order. However he would not do this for me and pushed the papers back. I only wanted him to check that everything else was in order to avoid further delays and to avoid running backwards and forwards to Nong Khai. I understand the office is busy, but I'm sure it would only take him a few minutes to flick through the papers.

Anyway after yet another bad experience with him, I will jump on the plane to Bangers in hope that I'll receive friendly service and talk to someone who may offer a little more assistance.

If anyone has the Bangkok immigration office number and address that would be great. Thanks

This guy is unreal... I know someone that went last week (owns a restaurant) presented his papers and Adolf has a look at one document and points at Ms. John Smith (surprise surprise not his real name) and blows a gasket as it says Ms. not Mr... What a plank!

Sorry for your bad experience Lee.
One of the reasons that I am going back to the UK is so that I can get another multiple entry 'O' & so be free of all contact with these clowns for another 15 months.
As I said before it is an extreme pity that they cannot be held to account for their actions....maybe one day, or maybe one day Cambodia or Vietnam instead.....

That's what I usually do; it's so much easier that way except the long flight home of course. Just pop your passport and application in the post and it comes back with a new visa within a few days.
However since I'm pretty busy at the moment, and not wishing to face the UK winter, I thought I'd grin a bear Nong Khai in hope that it had improved. I guess I was wrong, hopefully bangers will be more helpful.

I sure miss the days when he was working at AEK and I could go to Nong Khai.

Bob why don't you get a multiple entry O-A, and then you can be free of contact (other than reporting) for nearly 24 months.

Jack,
I would have to make contact with Nong Khai for them to accept my retirement application. Something that I am totally unwilling to do, especially with all the aggravation that guys on this site have had with paperwork.
Believe it or not I consider it less hassle to fly to UK & get an 'O' multiple entry there, with zero chance of being rejected. It does have the added advantage of me seeing the family & friends as well of course :D Plus I think that everyone should be mind numbingly bored for 24 hours (12 there, 12 back) once in a while.... :D
Unless you know of another way to get the A, in which case I might reconsider :D

Bob it is not up to Nong Khai to accept an O-A application - it is issued at the discretion of the overseas consulate at which you apply eg Hull.

So what I am saying is if you are going to the UK to get a visa, get an O-A (issued overseas), not an A (issued in Thailand).

Do a search of my previous posts - I set out what is required, and what the advantages are of a non O-A.

Get back to me if you need further information.

ps I am currently here on a non O-A, so have been through the hoops (which are minor).

Aah, OK, now I see. Slight stumbling block Jack. I must provide a "Subject Access Report" in order to obtain the OA - proof that I have no criminal record. It states (on the Hull Consulate site) that this can take 40 days for it to be issued. Looking to stay in the UK for about 14 days, do it looks like a no, no. But thanks for the 'heads up' on it.

Bob is there any reason you can't apply for the police clearance before you go back to the UK - so it is waiting for you when you get there? And then supply it to the consulate.

This would overcome your time limit problem.

Worth looking at Jack, because, as you said, the rest is pretty straightforward.
I will have another look tomorrow at the form & how/where it has to go to..

its certainly something that retirees should consider before burning their bridges .
imagine having to go thru this when you are frail and elderly possibly with health problems .
