Bangkok VIP Hotel.

You may have all seen the fly posters around town advertising rooms at 199bht for this new hotel, located near Tesco. Has anyone tried it? It looks pretty good on the advert on Udon Dee.I am in town for a few days and the Tops Mansion is full, plus its pretty noisy round there now so am thinking of trying it. Better than driving all the way home from the night market.

The 199bt rate is for short time stay. I think it was around 550 a night. Try the Pakalang (sp?)

I believe this is the short time rate. My wife mentioned it to me the other day (hey...how does she know....? :( )

Just kidding. It came up in one of her tourism classes - the teacher was using this as an example of misleading advertising. Hey....how does her teacher know about this.......:)?

Can't help you on that Rick, but I certainly applaud her efforts on pointing out these types of "fraudulent advertising".
I remember a while back (when I was living in Top Mansion) another establishment quite near the centre of town (no, not Ruysuk) had a large number of adverts on Tuk Tuks showing their monthly room rate was 5k baht a month, compared to my rate at TM of 9K. So off I trot to see them....
Yeah, room rate was 5K, plus water, plus electric, plus maid service, plus extra for aircon, plus extra for a balcony, no free water. When all added up ended at about 8,500 a month (so would have saved me 500 baht) but I wouldn't entertain them by then. Lost my business after about 2 minutes of conversation... :( :(
