Bank Letters

PostAuthor: wokkawombat » February 26, 2009, 1:18 pm

Has anyone had any problem getting a letter for Immigration from the Bangkok Bank in Nong Khai for a Bangkok Bank account in Udon Thani?

Thanks

John

Normally only the branch holding account or Bangkok Hqs will issue such a letter in my experience. You might be able to talk another branch into acting to obtain the Bangkok letter for you but probably not without some fancy talking.

It is exactly the same here in England only the bank branch where you are registered will issue letters.

not exactly. BB, if not mistaken, will only issue letter from main branch in udon, if bank with them in udon. thanachart, also issues letter at main branch in udon, even though i never use that branch.

so depending on bank, branch and manager of that branch, they may or may not issue. the bank book and computer record will give whoever needs it the information, so theoretically, any one in any branch could provide the letter.

i've only banked at main BB branch, and got letter there, also could only open the account there, at the time, don't know if that changed. thanachart bank, 1st branch opened, and opened account there, then larger, now main office branch opened, even my account number was from 1st but now is the new main branch's number. letter issued by main branch for them, which is the only reason i've ever been in that branch.

good luck.

John,
My account is held in the Bangkok Bank,Prajak Road,Udon Thani.
Last August I went to Immigration at Nong Khai on a "dummy run" for my visa to check everything was in order before getting my letter from Prajak Road.
The Immigration officer said everything was fine and he could issue an extension visa the same day if I went to get my letter from the bank.
I said I would come back the next day as I didnt fancy doing out and back to Udon again the same day.
He said why not try the Bangkok Bank in Nong Khai.
I said I didnt think it was possible as my account wasnt held there.
He shrugged his shoulders and said "up to you."
Anyway I did try the Bangkok Bank in Nong Khai opposite Tesco Lotus and THEY DID ISSUE THE LETTER which was great and very convenient for me.
Had to wait about an hour and they charged me about 130 baht ??? I think.
So give it a whirl.....nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that \:D/

In that case it would be worth a try - Nong Khai used to have exact wording requirements for that letter that other branch banks probably would not know about so it makes sense (and gives business to the local branch). Although believe most charge 200 baht so sounds like you also got a good deal.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised.I had the missus with me so maybe put it down more to her powers of persuasion than my affiliation to Man U. :D

I will try on Monday to get the letter from Nong Khai but I will try without a letter first as I have my Stat Dec from the Australian Embassy declaring my Income so in theory???????? I really only need copy of my bank book.

I am on a roll as the Embassy cashier did not turn up for work yesterday so no charge for my letter.

No trouble getting a letter from the branch of bank holding my account (Siam Commercial). I think a lot depends on the size of bank, how many staff etc. My previous branch in Udon issued one in no time. For my smallish, local branch now, I gave them a day's notice of the requirement. It's worth double-checking all your paperwork before setting off, particularly if it's written in Thai. 'Something told me' to have a look at my bank letter again just as I was about to go. Yup, my partner confirmed wrongly dated, which would have resulted in a wasted journey. Ok, I haven't very far to go, but I'm aware many travel to Nong Khai from a lot further.
(Just caught up with the info about reporting to your 'local' immigration office, so guess it may mean shorter journeys for some and a pain in rear for others.)

Ok, I visited Nong Khai Immigration this morning for an extension to my Non O, a re-entry permit and a 90 day report.

For the extension I had:-

Passport
Immigration form, TM whatever
Stat Dec from Australian embassy showing monthly pension
Bankbook original and copy
Copy of house lease
Copy of landlords house book and ID card
Copy of passport photo page, TM6 and entry stamp page

I was asked about the bank letter but I told them I was applying on the value of my pension. They accepted that.

What I did not have was copies of the other pages in my Passport. They copied free of charge. All done and dusted in about 1 hour.

Roll on 2010
