Amazing that in Mick's one and only post he didn't mention that both bars he endorses are owned by Nong!

(Blue Lagoon used to be Bar 505.)

Ricky's Bar Report (late September):-

There is a new bar called the Funky Monkey about to open, 2 doors along from Beer Belly Billy's on the River (Rimkong) Road. The bar is being run by an Englishman called Simon and his wife It should be open by this coming weekend (26th September).

And an Australian called Greg has just opened a new bar about 3 doors along (from BBB's) in the other direction.

So that's a bit more scope down the eastern end of the River Road (Rimkong Road).

In the town, Sponsor's Brendan & Noi have opened a new AC bar, called the Ice Bar, opposite their existing Brendan & Noi bar/restaurant

Also in the town, - rumour has it that the Outback Bar, currently closed, is shortly to re-open as another Nong Bar - Nong Bar 2.

In the other direction, (near the hospital), Busy Bar and Star Bar both seem to have changed hands, with Star Bar becoming Bamboo Bar 2. This area still seems extremely quiet though.

So there you have it from a rather quiet Nong Khai.

Thanks for the mention Jaidee, yes, my wife Jig and I are opening the Funky Monkey Bar at 6pm this evening (24th) a couple of doors further down from Peter at Beer Belly Billy's on Rimkong Road, I believe "Sunset Strip" is what this particular stretch of Rimkong Rd is being called now. We will have all beers at Happy Hour prices all night tonight.
Jig and I have only been in Nong Khai for about a month now, after moving from Koh Tao near Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, we both like Nong Khai very much and look forward to meeting more of the local Expats and their families.
Erh, what do you mean English? I'm a Cornish man! Lol :drunk:
