Battery for lap top

PostAuthor: AussieBoy » October 21, 2007, 8:41 pm

Typical rip off from the manufactures, battery for lap top 12 months old Compaq V 6000 B4000 in Australia, Thailand B3800

Well this little black duck spend 40 hours at TAFE college and learnt basic electric 101 15 years ago , well worth it for what I learnt.

Now for replacement battery, Sorry Big boy from Multi nationals, makita, lap top, any thing that uses a battery, I learnt not to pay for your expensive rip offs

3 x 6 volt battery baht 600 connected in series, producing 18V, just enough for lap top.
Baht 100 for nice Blue cover from local washing shop
Baht 100 for some wire and connectors

Total cost B800 for a 10amp battery for the lap top, thats a wooping B3000 saving , less my time, and the fact THAT i GET 10 HOURS OUT OF THE BATTERY

Photo: battery assembly ready to power up the lap top for 10 hours, thats 8.5 hours longer that the orginal one , for a 1/3 cost

battery have been glued together

Photo: of battery in soft blue case, fits nicely into carry bag with 2 mt lead

I have a nice Asus lappy that I bought from Oz to LOS.

I have managed to miniaturize a Honda genset to power it, which I carry around in a wheelbarrow if I need to go portable :D

Are the batteries re-chargeable? One of the reasons I initially bought a Compaq was the 3.5 hrs battery life. The idea was for the kid to watch movies etc. on the regular journeys we make to the coast. However, the battery life was at best 1.5 hrs when watching movies, now it's about 20 mins just playing Free Cell.

Oh, and does the carry case come in any other colour?

I was told not to use the car to power up/recharge the laptop. Power surges apparently.

The manufactures of laptops won't make any profit if people stop buying batteries, highly expensive item, so they wont recommend you use car outlet,

I have had no problem recharging my laptop battery from my car, but never turn the computer on from the car out let WITHOUT a surge protection device, When I am not driving my car I use the outlet, example when I arrive at a job site, and turn the car off, I use the car out let many times with out any problems, before I start the car again to go to the next job , I disconnect the cars supply and run off the laptops batteries.

So buy a charger with a surge proction, and you can use the lap top while the car is running, or buy a seperate battery like I use
