Just guessing - maybe because they've picked up on the fact that UTH is pinged quite a lot on t'internet by ex-pat Brits for the weather, so they've placed it on the map. I can imagine that there's quite a few Brits with links to UTH these days...

jus' guessin' Boss.

I think westers probably has it pretty well sussed in his assessment.
The BBC (whether people like their news coverage or not) are a pretty well clued up organisation and are pretty dam good at the internet & web data.
I suspect that not too many people who visit Patters care one jot about the weather Marmite - but that could just be my prejudices showing through :D :D :D

I'm guessing they choose Udon because it's the furthermost (major) northeastern city. It's not worth listing Pattaya because of it's close proximity to Bangkok.
I'm puzzled why Chiang Mai's not listed. :-k

No idea, I was just guessing as well. Maybe it's as simple as a man at the BBC thinking he'll identify the capital and A N other city in the north. Nice to see that UTH is literally on the map though.

Also have a look here http://www.weather.com/services/

You can see a box that talks about a Firefox add-on. If you install it you have the weather for whichever city you like (I use Nong Khai, but also has Udon etc) displayed like a widget along the bottom of your screen, above the Taskbar.

You can easily click and get radar maps, 10 day forecasts, etc etc.

4-5 years agao I did write everyday to the BBC via email complaining that in Thailand were an awful lot of expats and they skimmed over Thailand then in fact if it was mentioned at all is was a miracle.
Now they concentrate on SE Asia and they put Udon on the map, I am not saying it was me, but after about 6 months something happend and i was surprised, yes maybe not only me but others complained and they saw the error of their ways.

Anyway it is good isn't it no matter how it got there.

Maybe it's because Udon city has the most population of any city outside the Bangkok metro area.

For whatever reason I like seeing it when they do the weather.

More likely that it's slap bang in the middle of no where and the name doesn't obstruct any where important.
