Behaviour at Night Time for Expats

PostAuthor: wazza » April 12, 2009, 4:11 am

Friday night at Climax was looking ok, good bunch of people enjoying themselves and looking forward to the extended holiday season.

But wait, a group of expats decended, dressed in army fatigues, vests ( with Thai Font ) , sneekers, and started terrorising the locals , dancing at all the tables, right in the faces of locals , predominatately women.

It caused many tables to relocate to safer areas, away from the expats table.

Things started to settle down after a while, till one of the expats decided it was time to ramp up the attention scale score and collapse to the floor with an almighty "crack " after consuming what look like numerous shots of 100 Pipers .

Assisted with his other colleagues and Climax staff, he was dragged uncerimonously towwards the entrance.

Looking at the body language of the locals was interesting.

Yes the Thais do the same thing in their pubs for sure, but wished i could have crawled under the floor.

Was it the 'night market meet up regulars' venturing out to a differant venue.....

Dressed in army fatigues? That's gay - were they wearing pink shirts and dancing to Jintara as well?

This "phenomenon" is going to come back and haunt all of us. I've soberly noted when travelling
within my little circle of friends and acquaintances, people who I've extended every courtesty
and politeness, I'm treated rather well. But outside of this when you meet strangers, more and
more often you get uncomfortable looks, apprehensive stares, unpleasant facial expressions and
this is why. A few "lager louts" as they were creating a negative general impression for all of us. :(

While I agree with you Cali, I'm afraid there's not much that can be done about it at our level and I'm also thinking, you're preaching to the choir. Unlike Beer Monkeys comment, I'm quite sure we're not talking about forum members - the ones I know would, in no way, act in such a manner. I think the one's who would cause such a disruption in normal society were probably just holidaying farangs who've heard exaggerated reports of the songkran partying and have decided to start early. It's unfortunate for those of us who live here on a permanent basis but...

It's precisely these types of actions that drove me from Pattaya some four years ago. Hope I don't have another similar 'move' in the near future.

So whats the answer Wazza? Impose dress standards? Now that would bar many, including some forum members. Or you could do as I do.Keep out of places where farangs are likely to go.On the basis, what you don't see , you don't grieve.

That is my philosophy too - avoid those places like the plague !

Well, if they are wearing pink t-shirts and the females have managed to get into skimpy white shorts and everyone is dancing to Jintara that is acceptable behaviour; however, the army fatigues are, as Khun Westerby so acutely observes, really and truly gay.

Off with their alcohol-sodden heads!!! 55555
