I have downloaded a movie but it is too big to burn onto 1 DVD, how do I split the movie to burn to 2 DVD's.


I have the movie as a MP4 and I've also converted it to VIDEO_TS, as I usually do to convert for viewing in my DVD player.

I use Nero to do the burning, and from memory it will calculate and automatically split the files into the required number of discs.

You need to bring all the converted video_TS files into Nero at the same time - don't try and split yourself.

What program did you use to convert the MP4 to DVD? Usually, somewhere in the setup before the conversion, it will let you specify how many and what size disks you want to burn the output to. Some will even convert it to iso image files so that you can tell your burning program to just burn the image file and not have to worry about a lot of smaller files.

fremmel, I use DVD Flick to convert to DVD format, can't say I've seen any set up for number of discs but there again have never needed to do it before, Will take a look see if this program has the option.

I use WinAvi to convert from the .avi (or whatever) format to the video_ts format. WinAvi then takes you direct into Nero once the files are converted.

Not sure if it applies to your situation but if I need to back-up/copy a DVD I use DVD Shrink.

I've never used DVD Flick so I can't help you there. Avi2dvd is another freeware converter that gives good quality conversions though it doesn't link to your burning software.

If you download a lot of AVIs it may be worth your while to look at buying a DVD player that will also play them. I picked up a Pioneer for about 3,000 baht last year that plays most of the MP4 formats as well as all the usual formats. That saves the long conversion step and also lets you write 5 or 6 movies on a single DVD. The quality is a bit better too since you don't have to process the movie again. I got mine at Big C but I've seen them at Robinson's and Lotus too. Be sure to check which formats they support.

Look for the models that say DivX or MPEG4 on the front. I've seen several brands but have been very happy with my Pioneer DV-383. Don't know what the current model numbers are. Their more expensive models only seemed to add karaoke or other functions I didn't want.

Probably a good idea take a few sample DVDs with you to make sure they play OK. At minimum, burn a DVD RW with an AVI or two and a standard DVD that you've burned yourself. I usually put the AVIs on an RW first to make sure they play in my player before I burn them for real. Occasionally the AVIs come needing weird codecs or an audio encoding that the player won't play. In that case I use VirtualDub to re-encode it to a more standard format that the player accepts.

I bought recently a dvd player in lotus that plays DIVX, MPEG4,.....
But more interesting, the DVD player has a USB port.
I download all my movies from torrent.
I put them on an external hard disk 500 GB.
I simply plug this external hard disk in the USB port of the DVD player.
Sometimes I simply load 2-3 movies on my flash driver and plug this in the USB port of the DVD player.
What is interesting is that now when I watch a movie, nothing mechanical works at the DVD player.
No problem with scratched disks or dirty optical readers,.....
Very easy.

I am sure cookie can answer for himself, but in the meantime.

In short, there are 2 steps to downloading movies (which, as it is illegal, I am not advocating you do so).

Firstly, you must find the movies. Many people do this via www dot mininova dot com, but there are a number of other sites.

Second, you need a torrent program - again, many people use u torrent, which is easily downloaded and installed.

After that, as I understand it, the process is pretty simple, and the time taken to download will of course depend on the speed of your internet connection. Anything less than ADSL will be a pain in the ar*e.

Yes, I use utorrent. (www.torrentbox.com)(www.bitorrent.am) and many more websites available.

I have 1000kbps download speed from TT&T (maxnet).
If I select a movie with many seeds, it takes me 90 minutes to download a movie.
In general I leave my computer on at night and select 2-3 movies to download during the night.
Very easy.
In the weekend I download TV series, Bones, Prison break, smallville,.... and sports: german football, dutch football, NFL,....
Very easy and free....
( Had some problems in the beginning to open a port on my router. Got some help and a technician from TT&T came by to help me.
Gave the guy some Famous Grouse and he installed everything perfect.
I am doing this now for +/- 8 months.
In the beginning I made some mistakes(downloaded too much porno...) NO GOOD !!!!
Now I know which guys seed good movies and good programs. Try to stick to the good guys.
This is the only way for me to get movies with dutch subtitles.
I also download dutch songs and games for my daughter.
Heck I even download e-books, dutch cartoons, dutch comics,....
amazing what you can do with internet and technology,....

The only thing I would add is don't bother to download movies that are still in the cinema, the quality is likely to be very poor. Wait until they are posted in DVD/X, AVI etc.
Also read the comment pages, can save you a lot of time downloading rubbish that doesn't work.
As Cookie said the more seeds they have the quicker you can download it.
