buy in Thailand from ebay????

PostAuthor: cookie » April 25, 2007, 1:54 pm

I noticed in an other post that people were talking about ebay.
If I would buy here in Thailand something from ebay,
what happens with the import duties??
Are there some members that did this in the past and can tell us more about the costs?
Thanks.

Think a problem. If you check items on US Ebay, somewhere toward the bottom it will say where they will ship to, a wild quess, most will say US, or US & Canada. Know nothing about Ebay in other countries, but I think they have them in EU.

Its just like buying anything on line, I was looking at some items on Overstock dot com, they will ship to Thailand, but the price more than tripled, can't remember if it said duty would be paid, or pay here if you get it.

I have thought about buying on-line and shipping to my US address, then send it here as reading material. Well, come to think about it, I did just that for some learning english material and everything came here fine. 8)

As long as the seller on eBay says he/she will ship wprldwide, then there is no problem in getting the item shipped here. My friend just bought a Creative Zen M (mps and video player) from a ebay seller in the USA, for about $200 and there was no taxes to be paid to the Thais. The package was not opened.

In the USA, it must be marked on the customs form attached to the package, what the item is and how much it is worth. I shipped many eBay items worldwide.

In this case, it is hard to say why it was not opened at customs. Maybe it is below the value to be taxed...? Best to ask the customs people.

I've also had items shipped here from eBay sellers around the World, without any problems and never having a package opened.
I'm of the understanding that if customs see a pattern to the packages arrivals, guessing perhaps one a month, they may get suspicious and start opening them.

Yes, but sometimes you are looking for something that you can't find here.
For example the solar powered water pump. I am sure that you will find this easy on ebay. If they ship it here no problem, but if custom department starts charging big import duties, then ebay is no longer interesting in Thailand.

EBAY doesn't care about the duties , taxes or what country you ship to or from!!They collect their fees from the seller!

Go to [ Buy in China . com ] they sell direct from the factory to anywhere in the world. As a major trading partner of Thailand the duty should be pretty resonable. Have not tried myself, but an email could give all the answeres.

I know its an old thread but thought I'd have a look around the older postings

From what I know, e.bay does not want to operate in Thailand probably due to fraud and scams :(
I'm gonna give it a go from Udon this year to see what happens  having a UK ID with a good rating I have also set the wife up with an ID too (both obviously registered in the UK)...might keep me off the Leo's for the odd night or two

Managed to get a Paypal account registered to my Thai account OK but only done that to see if it was cheaper to transfer monies via Paypal from account to account without all the hassle from UK banks...I might even try it one day

I've been using eBay for years, have had many items shipped here from the UK, US, China etc, never a problem. I've also sold items from here, our account has our Thai address registered, OK we have used a UK bank though.
