B'man, did you ever find the answer to this? I am interested to know.

I would suspect either farang cannot use it, or if we could, we would need to have obtained our visa previously, i.e. not "on arrival".

arjay,i shall drive into Phon Phisai today or tomorrow and i will ask.I noticed a dilapidated old house on the river bank with a sign in English saying Phon Phisai immigration office so i will ask there.Lots of building work going on so maybe a return to the old days when faramgs could go across and visas could be extended. This was way before my time.

It would be nice to have a another crossing, apart from the log jam at the Friendship Bridge.

Apparently another bridge is being built in Si Chang Mai, or will be soon...

Phon Phisai - Laos Crossing

PostAuthor: johnt » April 10, 2006, 8:35 pm

Unfortunately, you cannot legally cross here as a farang, (though quietly it can be done) but with no benefit as far as a visa goes as to get a visa you need outward stamps plus incoming, none of which are avaialbe in Phon Phisai.
But Saturdays and Tuesdays are Thai - Laos market days and you might enjoy the festival atmosphere (and bargains if you are a good negotiator). Well worth a look if you are looking for a day out.

So much going on and so close to home if you take a look.

John.
