Looked everywhere for some info on the above topic.

My legally married wife and I are planning to live 'half and half', Winter time in LOS and summer in the UK for the next few years until I am ready to retire fully.

Does anyone know if my wife can work in the UK without a work permit? Does the fact that she is legally married to me entitle her to work without this document?

Franco she will need a National Insurance number obtainable with a interview at a Job Centre Plus, takes about 30 mins for short interview(you can answer for her if she don't know what to say lol), then she can work.

if she as the correct visa yes

also she must pass a new english course before the end of a two year spouse visa but to get that visa you must be going to settle in the uk
lets say you get that visa which is simple to get if your based in the uk but still possible but not as easy if your based in thailand

you can not get the ni number from your local job centre plus anymore you will problaley have to travel to a city if you dont plan to live in one
but the apointment can be made at your local job centre plus

Yep me too Izzix, and the Thai restaurants, apparently they got different rules for students,

yeah its called 'Cash-in-hand' for reasturants hush-hush keep sshtum. lol.
never seen one in Tescos though, plenty of phillipinos doing a weekly shop..but no Thai students, still don't live to near a college/university campus i suppose, so thats why i guess.

My missus got a job working as a breakfast waitress at the nearby Holiday Inn,for a year.
Also there were a couple of Thai restaurants in town and she worked for them,occasionally,cash in hand.
She thought that the equivalent of 400 baht an hour was fantastic money.....I could never get through to her about the expense of living in the UK....gas,electric,council tax,petrol etc.
Once your wife gets her NI number she will have no problem getting a job.

Franco, basically your wife will either require a work permit visa or indefinite leave to remain in UK for her to obtain a National Insurance Number.

theres large numbers of thais working on their backs for cash in hand ,they dont have work permits i guess ,funny as it may seem they are not issan gals but well educated BKK gals.
