back onto one of my favourite subjects on this forum "RUBBER"!!

Thai companies are taught that for health and safety reasons to change the tires after 60,000 km or 2 years of use!!

Have any of you ever heard of this. Because NZ and Oz says that the minimum tread should be no less than 1.5mm.

In this company I have seen two full sets of tires replaced at 60,000km they both had 6mm or 7mm or tread on them. The new ones had 9mm.

Now this really gets me on my goat........that is.....These are Thai conditions are more hazardous than NZ and Australia.........this makes me laugh .....Oz is as hot.......NZ has has ice and snow........And I think generally the roads in Thailand are not in that bad a condition (the odd pothole, but more tread won't fix that problem)

What are your thoughts??

i do believe those wood tapping feathered peckers are alive and well in thailand.

Must be two rules in Thailand, one for Gov Staff and one for the civilian population, pulled by the Old Bill in Udon a few weeks ago, all four tyres on the officers pickup as smooth as Kojak's

That same pick up did'nt also have broken tail-lights by any chance . ? .

Thats why the ''money stops'' have started again.Can't drive the vehicles to far!Ran through one just before getting to Udon,before the railroad tracks,on Friday before lunch!Wifes still flinches

there are some shocking tyres on the road ,look at all the canvas showing thru , seen too many blowouts when moving around .managed to avoid them though .scary

had a few good 'blow-outs' me-self, usually after 8 pints and a hot curry.

With my vehicles it seems the combination of sun and heat degrades the rubber pretty quickly in Thailand. By the 3rd year on my motorbike the side walls and treads were cracking and though there was still good tread I changed them. My car had cheapish tires on it when I bought it and after about 2 years and less than 50,000 KM the side walls started to crack. I was lucky and noticed it on the car because it happened to be parked with the tire turned to where the weight made it flex enough to be able to see the crack. When the weight wasn't on that spot you couldn't see it so I don't know how many other cracks there were. I changed all of them after I saw that.

So company's are into 'Health and safety' regarding changes of tyres every 2 years, shame some don't teach the drivers of such vehicles the 'health and safety' of the road.
