Changes to Retired Guy's Extension

PostAuthor: rickfarang » September 1, 2007, 9:21 am

There is an analysis of a to the requirements for the retired guy's visa. It was posted by Sunbelt Asia on Thai Visa. In the past, Sunbelt has been a reliable source of information. Apparently these changes are effective September 1, 2007, though they are subject to review next week.

This will not have any significant effect on most of us, but for a few, it could be devastating.

(Note: When I visited immigration in Bangkok last Friday, I noticed an immigration officer having a fellow hand-draw a map, filling in street names, etc. I wondered what that was all about.)

Lee, sounds like you can set up another business - supplying maps for retirees!!!!

How detailed does the map have to be??? Would one showing Nong Khai & Udon Thani do???? :D :D

Let me get this straight. This applies only if all members of the family are foreigners?

Does immigration use GPS's? Maybe that would suffice instead of a map.

Ricohock, my reading of it is that this applies to individual people. rather than families. According to Sunbelt Asia's post, those people who are staying in Thailand with visas that they obtained on the basis of being supported by a retired person will no longer be able to receive those visas or have them extended.

I got my "retirement" visa extension in Pattaya on Thursday (Sept. 6) and they didn't ask for a map.

Ran across this posting on thaivisa.co, and am not sure if everybody else who might be affected has seen it.

Dependents linked to a retiree's visa are allowed again. It seems that the organization that set out the new rules did not have the authority to do so, and immigration acted prematurely when enforcing these rules without proper approval of them.

"The previously reported change in the regulations has not been enacted by Bangkok Immigration after a meeting held earlier today.

Bangkok Immigration will follow National Police Order 606, and applications from dependants are now being accepted/issued."

Here is where it is discussed in the thaivisa(dot)com forum:

Here is a version of the rules as there were and are (the October 1, 2006 rules)

I arrived back in Thailand 02-10-07 and was due to make a 90 day report 22-10-07. Once before they had told me I had to resubmit a new form so off I went to NK with my form. They asked me what I wanted, looked at my passport, took out old reporting slip and stapled a new new in with a 5-01-2008 reporting date. I offered the form but they did not want it. I am sure if I did not have the form they would have wanted it.
