Cleaning monitor

PostAuthor: wokkawombat » July 23, 2008, 3:55 pm

I have an Acer X193W LCD Monitor that needs cleaning. Is Windex suitable or will it damage the screen. Any tips?.

NO WINDEX. simply use a damp, mildly damp (water) soft cotton cloth, then another soft cottoen cloth to wipe off any excess moisture. shouldn't take much effort to clean, very little moisture needed.

Picked up a little bottle (100ml) of STONY (Tesco/Lotus?)... Maybe 120 Baht but it lasts ages as it only takes 1-2 sprays. With the power off I spray on the screen and with the cloth damp I wipe all over the notebook screen frame and surrounds.

Be careful of pressure cleaning the actual screen... Those crystals (Liquid Crystal Display) can be a bit fragile.

The LCD makers suggest that you either use the expensive cleaner or plain water. They say that plain water works just fine (which is what I use).

Be careful to use a soft cloth so as to avoid scratching the screen's surface.

Being a cheap Charlie and not wanting to incur the expense of the recommended proprietary products, I've been using a mild solution of "Dettol" on a soft cloth for a number of years and had no problems (so far).

Yeah, my small little monkey gets over excited when watching vids of Thomas the Tank Engine on my lap-top and pokes at the screen. :irked:
