Can anyone quote me a UM topic regarding food etc where there has been a general consensus from all posters.

Seems some of us are critical of most venues, we all compare back to our homelands etc

Carrefor coped a mostly negative review, didnt have this, didnt have that etc.

Most expat food is seen to be overpriced blah blah

I like Starbucks, i like smooth creamy lattes and dont like strong coffees,

I dont like McD's , for dietary issues and its kids marketing.

Im convinced all posters comments are just based on their own tastes and not on what the establishment is trying to aim its marketing at.

Starbucks will also bring some new bakery items , fresh and tasty, yes a little more expensive than the local smaller muffins.

Its WIFI might drag a few in also, AC in the summer time is worth the extra.

Dont forget the Expat community is small in Udon, no Thai based company ( Int or Thai ) will open here just to support the Expat community. Subway would have been here otherwise .

The Expat community will still need to rely on specialised small business committment to satisy its culinary needs.

Yeah great init. ...i Love a food topic, probably one of my favourites, plus you get to learnt a lot from members that come from differant parts of the world, everyone will have a differant idea of what suits them and what don't.

your spot on wazza , it does all boil down to personal tastes . thats why anyone opening a restuarant to cater for the expats is likely to be commiting financial suicide . im not talking mcds and starbucks , because they are international names . but if you opened a typical english greasy spoon cafe ,or fish and chip restuarant , im pretty sure the brits would use it , maybe other nationals would visit once or so out of curiosity , but you could never rely on them to survive . i would use a new york style deli once in a while , just as i will mcds and starbucks , but they would not get rich from my trade !!!!! if im south , yes i look forward to the burger joints and subways , because its all part of the traveling experience and a treat . ive tryed very hard to re educate my pallet whilst here , and there are several very very good thai restaurants where you can have a truly great meal for very little money , but i still crave good old british nosh !!!!!!!! its now a complete roll reversal for me !!! in the u k i would go to a good chinese or thai restaurant for a change and a treat , now i go to establishments that cater for falangs for the same reasons . but i certainly could not afford nor want to eat in them everyday !!!!!
