comunicating with doctors

PostAuthor: mo1medic » March 22, 2007, 3:47 pm

if you go to the doctor or hospital in Udon , do they speak english well enough to understand your complaint?
I was in bangkok last Sept. and went to the local hospital after being sick for 4 days. I have been a paramedic for the past 20+ years but had a hard time telling the Doc what was wrong. maybe because he looked like he just turned 21. I found out about the american hospital the next day.

My Dr at AEK hospital not only speaks good English but understands English humour, something many on here don't  His name is Dr Aren Poonsrigrarn. Terrific bedside manner too.

Dr Aram, my doc too, I go see him every 3 months for meds and agree he has an excellent manner - we always share a joke or two... not that it should make a difference but I wonder if the Chinese Thai's doctors (as he is) understand English more than the Thai doctors...

Dr Aram at AEK must be taking care of a lot of us farangs. You're right, very intelligent guy with a good sense of humor. Some of the doctors that I saw in the states could learn from him. Have no idea about his bedside manner, tho. When I hear that term I start thinking about all of the cute, smiling nurses in that place.

Paolo is great. Tossaporn, the patient rep for English speakers will take good care of you. Many of the physicians and Physical therapy providers speak English. Their accupuncturist also speaks English well. I had been goingt here for six months before the return to Vientiane, and never had a problem. A few of the RNs speak English but more of the younger LPNs (blue uniform) speak English.

Those nurses in Paolo look just as sexy in their uniforms as the Beer Girls in the nearby Beer Garden. Not the place for anyone with a weak heart.
