if american, the embassy staff is coming to udon on the 21st of oct for any consular services you may need.

The following consular services will be available:

*Passport renewal applications (US $67.00 or baht 2,680 for adult passports)

*Additional passport pages (no charge)

*Notarial services (US $30 or baht 1,200 for the first notarial; US $20 or baht 800 for each additional related notarial), including income letters for immigration.

*Embassy registration and/or address change

*Absentee ballot application and voting abroad information

*Social security, VA or other federal benefits questions

*Obtaining forms for marriage registration, report of birth, etc. Please note that because of the time and paperwork required to complete most applications for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA), no CRBA applications will be accepted during consular outreach trips.

**We ask that you bring the correct fee as we will not be able to provide change or accept credit cards.

Please note this date on your calendar, and extend an invitation to the America Community residing in the Udorn area. If you have any questions, please e-mail: acsbkk@state.gov or call the American Citizen Services Unit at: 02-205-4049 for more information.

We look forward to seeing you on October 21st.

LA, I should direct my question to the embassy but will try to you first or anyone else who knows. You referenced VA benefits. What type of Va benefits could possibly be obtained in Thailand other than disability checks?

you mean to tell me other embassies don't make the rounds. usa does 2 trips a year on average, also to khon kaen at sofitel hotel, if needing a reason to pamper yourself for 1900 baht, inc breakfast and couple beers. i'm surprised uk, germany, aussie embassie don't do that, as americans are definitely a minority of tourist/expat community.

There is a VFW Post herein town with a very knowledgeable Service Officer, more then likely that would be your best source of information here in Udon. Probably better the embassy.

this guy is not someone you hear a lot about, but he takes care of the Vets here and probably some 100 veterans widows, with filings for income.

banpaeng, mainly I think they will inform you of VA/Fed benefits that your are intitled to while overseas, just a question and answer ordeal. Also I did not realize that Joint US Military Assistant Command was still here :yikes: , I guess they are for the Cobra Gold each year. Does that mean that MACTHAI is still here also, Military Assistant Command Thailand.

Not sure of the history of Joint US Military Assit Cmd (JUSMAG) may have been MACTHAI once upon a time. Here's a link if your interested:

Earlier in my career I tried for years to get an assignment there, but I think it was one of those "you gotta know someone who knows someone to get that post"

Ok, got what I expected. Will not help me but maybe a military retiree or a DAV who might read this. Here it is:

To Brian:
The DVA dose not have an office or medical facilities in Thailand. If
you
have an awarded DVA disability you can claim expenses if you mail
receipts
for treatment, service, pills etc. to the Foreign Medial Service for
100% of
what you paid. If you are DVA 100% permanent disabled you have
entitlement
to use the APO system. Request you contact the Retiree Activities
Office if
you are. The RAO will try to answer any questions. The RAO has most
of the
DVA forms you may need.

I do some work for the Thai Navy and have some dealings with JUSMAGTHAI. They do many things other than Cobra Gold as this is really only a SMALL once a year exercist with Thailand. The Thai military uses quite a bit of US military equipment. When they need assistance with any ot this equipment from the US then they go thru JUSMAGTHAI to get this help. they have all sortos of stuff from airplanes, ships etc They even have US military equipment on ships that did not come from the US. Lucky for me, this is how I met my Thai wife, coming over to work on a computer on their aircraft carrier that they had built in Spain. How it got a US military computer onboard is beyond me but I got called to fix it and now do quite a bit of work for them.

Do the US troops here have immunity like they do in South Korea?
