Cs Loxinfo IPSTAR In search of advice!

PostAuthor: The Guvnor » December 1, 2007, 1:08 am

Can any of you good people shed some light on the Ipstar service offered by CS loxinfo.
I have been struggling out here in the boonies with a GPRS connection & I really hacked off with it, not least because my mobile is just about on it's last legs & spasmodically keeps rebooting itself when connected to gprs! although it works perfectly as a telephone! hence now looking at the only other alternative(as far as I am aware) for us poor village type peasants to get connected to the net IPSTAR!
Their website is never updated & very limited in terms of information to say the very least!
I believe they offer a home package at 1500 baht +tax per month, apparently there is an installation fee of 3000 baht, & subscribers are contracted to a minimum period of 12 months.
This service supposedly gives a connection of 256/128 kb per second! However I am fully aware that those figures depend on many factors, not least the weather!
I am not sure but I have been told that the 256/128 home package has a bandwidth limit of 4 gig per month!

I guess another option would be to just buy a new mobile phone that is gprs compatible & has blue tooth capabilities, and soldier on with GPRS connectivity!
Anyway that will depend on the feedback i get re this IPSTAR i suppose.
So i would be very grateful if anyone can advise on this! And perhaps fill in the blanks re this IPSTAR deal! ie is there anyway of checking bandwidth used as the month progresses etc etc etc!

Many thanks

Hey Guv, I used IPStar at 2 different locations here in Udon Thani and was generally pleased with their performance... but, the prices are a bit high compared with ADSL and seemed to vary greatly. My first experience with IPStar was via BD Computing. They set me up but charged me 2500/mo. When I moved, I started with TOT but since they didn't ADSL at my location they offered IPStar service as wel.l The cost was 1500/mo. and the speed was double what I got thru BD. The main difference was that BD did NOT require the 1 yr. commitment while TOT did require it.

Bottom line, I repeat, the performance was generally quite good. 8)

GPRS and IPSTAR do appear to be the only games in town when it comes to internet connectivity if you live out in the sticks. (I can sell you an old Nokia that accepts a serial cable if you want to do 9600 baud dialu=p, though.)

You can read CS/Loxinfo's latest IPSTAR offering on their website.

The occasionally have "specials". You may want to keep your eyes open for them.

Hi Guys thanks for the responses! very much appreciated!

Still trying to figure out what the exact bandwidth limits are on this Ipstar home package, seem to be getting differing reports depending on where you look!

Pricewise the csloxinfo web site states for the 256/128 home package as they call it advertise a monthly fee of 2500 baht per month! But there is a place quite local to me offering the same deal through csloxinfo at 1500 per month!

I tried asking (via my wife) the Thai chap in the shop about bandwidth limits etc etc! Needless to say he never had a clue what i was talking about! just kept shaking his head!
I gave up in the end & thought i would ask you guys here instead!
I hate shopping for anything like this!

Rick sent you pm re that nokia mate!

By the way if anyone else has a Gprs/Bluetooth compatible phone for sale please send me a personal message!

cheers fella

Guv,

No need to go thrugh CS Loxinfo to get IPSTAR. Go straight to TOT and it is the same service and CS gets no cut. TOT does require a year contract and can be costly if not keeping for a year. Pricing is 512/256 2200baht, 1024/512 2700baht per month with 2000 baht installation fee. TOT will come to the boonies to install. Don't know where you live but may have to go to the TOT office in Udon. Before moving to Udon I lived in a small village in Loei and had to go to Wang Suphan, 70 kilos away to get service arranged. They supported the whole province from there. When moving to Udon, I transferred service and arranged installation from the Udon office. I have the 512/256 sevice and have been happy with it.

This could be valuable info for anyone living out in the sticks. Before finding this thread I tried to go through CS but got a complete runaround from their unresponsive reps. They finally sent a price list but it was unreal. They offered 256/128 home service for 2200 baht per month, 512/256 for 4200 baht or 1024/512 for 8500 baht. Installation fee of 3000 baht and one month fee had to be paid up front. Decided to look for other alternatives and found this thread. Made a trip to TOT in Udon and signed a one year contract for their IPSTAR 1024/512 package for 2600 baht per month. TOT installed the dish and modem yesterday and I'm very satisfied with it all. Complete prices are about the same as quoted above by Keg. Thanks for the info, Keg.
