Dentists (I'm Sure This Has Been Asked Before)

PostAuthor: Kudjap or Bust » June 15, 2006, 9:15 am

Was enjoying BBQ'd ribs last night watching the football and broke a tooth......Not painful but bloody annoying...

Can anyone recommend a good dentist to get this fixed..............I must add I am a complete woosey when it comes to the dentist, and I mean WOOSEY..... so they'll need to be good and gentle.....

Try this one. I have used her and found her to be gentle as a kitten.

Dentists

As a medcial person, u need to to look at just more than the cost. One of the major issues world wide with Dental care is the risk of cross infection particularly, with sterilisation of drill / handpieces.

There are many documented cases of HIV and Hepatitis B and C ( the real danger - no vaccination available for Hep C ) where dentists will use new drills , BUT not sterlise the hand piece / drill attachment area, this is where blood, saliva is still contained from the previous patient

Sterlising the hand / drill piece causes the hand piece to deteriorate faster and so short cuts will be taken by many operators. 1 Dentist in Australia cross contaminated 5 patients in 1 afternoon with HIV and Hepatitis C

Ask your Dentist if they sterlise the hand / drill piece , if they dont, then my advice is walk till u find one that does. Hepatitis C is rampant world wide and Thailand is no exclusion and u dont get a 2nd chance

There is 1 dentist that I know in Udon that does sterlise the entire drill hand set. I cant remember the name, but they are up near the Police station and approx 20 metres next to another dental surgery. The female dentist trained in USA and is well aware of the litigation issues there with medical professional care etc....

Most of the dentists dont have Nitrous Oxide ( analgesic gas ) only found in BKK at the $$$$ clinics

Hope this assists

but i suppose its possible that they would say they are steralized even if they was'nt. (tit)

Ask to see them open the sterlised pack, it would be autoclaved, that way u can confirm its been done correctly. make sure its mentioned @ ur first walk in for apointment time. If they use a wet sterliser, it can be TIT.

i suppose its a bit of common sense really, lets face it i would'nt have a tattoo done with-out the needle being a steralised one.
But have been lucky enough not to have visits to dentists in Thailand, but i guess there will come a time.
Hope none of this is putting KoB off..Image.

Bing that I am in the medical field I would not send someone to a doctor unless I new for a fact that she is sterilizing her equipment. I know the above doctor is sterilizing all of her equipment.

I must bring to your attn; that Nitrous Oxide is out lawed in clincs and only can be used in hospitals in Thailand.

Thanks for the quality information wazza, this is certainly something to keep in mind when visiting the local dentist.

If anyone has the contact details for the above clinic, it may be worth noting them here.

Not putting me off just yet, but will take onboard the issues raised whilst deciding where to make an appointment.

As a side issue, I just checked out my health insurance and it doesn't cover this type of dentistry, does anyone have any experience of charges for dentistry here?

Prices are low compared to the states, think a filling costs between 350 to 450 baht ($9 - $11) depending which you select at Paolo Memorial Hospital (across from City Lodge).

Here is a page from their web.
