Yuo know throwing rock and bottles is one thing, yuo got shield and equipemnr to protect yuo, so some tear gas water cannon appropriate and most countries rubber bullet and rubber grenade pellets is acceptable. Used in jails all over the states in prison riots.
Molotov cocktails that a different story if they can get range of yuo that is a deadly weapon and pretty horrific death to boot. In the states deadly force could be used wihout question.
Did the cops and troops over react I'm sure some did, I was never in one this where some didn't over react. Those guys had to be scared I was never in one where I wasn't you just learn o control the fear and do yuor job.
So we are up to Sunday mornign quartebacking, by peope that donlt appear to know what international standards are. Would be nice if they learned that first. Even bettr if the next time they step up the line and see what it really feeel like. The soldier and cops at the end of the day are nothing but people. You throughout my entiore xccareer I never felt like gettin killed was required. Getting home after a shift was.
What a shame they told these guys to step up they did and now everyones wants to condemn them.
So who is the bad guy here the guy burning the city down or the guy who stopped him, looks to me like the guy who stopped it.
Defense Ministers Orders Improvement of Protest Dispersing Measures
UPDATE : 30 April 2009
The Defense Minister has instructed the Armed Forces to improve methods for dispersing protesters to meet international standards and to use the recent crackdown on red-shirt protesters as a lesson for the future.
After a meeting of the Defense Council today, Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan said he has instructed the Armed Forces to improve methods used to disperse protesters at public venues.
He said he expected the Army to learn from the crackdown on red-shirt protesters during the Songkran festival and to use that lesson to meet international standards.
General Prawit acknowledged that some had criticized the Army in wake of the crackdown, with some accusing it of using live ammunition and unnecessary violence.
Meanwhile, Defense Ministry Spokesperson Major General Jittasak Charoensombat released a statement saying the Defense Minister has instructed the Armed Forces to be careful when using crowd-control devices to tackle protesters in the future.
He said the minister voiced concern that using rubber bullets instead of live ammunition may not work against protesters in the future.
He said the minister has ordered Army personnel to tighten security and collect evidence from the crackdown to be used in a military handbook in the future.
The Defense Minister also called on all soldiers to follow the government’s national reconciliation strategy by promoting unity among people nationwide.
