I'm thinking of one place which I have always referred to as "Country Pub" which is at the north end of the Robinsons Complex road, across from the Grand Chareonsri Hotel on the corner. I usually see a farang face or two in there but not many despite its being right down town... The music is straight Issan style and the atmosphere is interesting to say the least and I'm been to similar places in Sakhon Nakon, Kalasin and Rayong (ok not quite Issan) and its always cheap and decent place to meet locals in a more natural environment (no I'm not an anthropologist) ... Anyone know the name of the above mentioned place or have opinions on local venues? :-s

You old farts need to get out more. That is if your old thai gf/wife will let you go by yourself!!!
Get out and experience the real night life in Udon. It does not stop at 1 or 2 am. There are plenty of night spots that stay open until the sun comes up. You all have lived a very sheltered lives. Get out and explore Udon/Thailand.

Thank you Ronald. Obviously a selfish, introverted Gen X'er. Have you left home yet? :D

Us well adjusted, financially secure Baby Boomers can make our own decisions about what is a good time to hit the sack - and how often to fart!

The coming up of the sun is a signal to arise from slumber, not to commence same. Keep living your life of unlimited big macs, and late to bed, and we will all outlive you :D :D
