about 500 dollars per child up to your max benefit, hopefully 500 for both won't put you over the max limit for your family.........................congrats.

and for adopted, good for at least 16 years, even if you crap out. always wondered why some senior citizens start having babies after retired, even official over 65 years old, not a bad income for the little lady after they depart, 1-2-3 kids, 35-70-105, 000 baht a month............cha-ching, we have a winner.

Sounds like you guys are on to my plan . In my case it comes to $585/child/month and continues until they are 16. Nice source of additional income for a coule of years.

i believe it is 18, as long as Pak is still with us, but i know at least 16, if he decides to go to Nirvana a wee bit early. 18 sounds better............ then i'm sure there may be extra time if school involved....................BUT, since cutting SS expenses is a top priority, anything is up for change.

Your child can get benefits if he or she is your biological child, adopted child or dependent stepchild. (In some cases, your child also could be eligible for benefits on his or her grandparents’ earnings.)

To get benefits, a child must have:

A parent(s) who is disabled or retired and entitled to Social Security benefits; or
A parent who died after having worked long enough in a job where he or she paid Social Security taxes.

The child also must be:

Unmarried;
Younger than 18;
18-19 years old and a full-time student (no higher than grade 12); or 18 or older and disabled. (The disability must have started before age 22.)



Seems as though the benefits stop the day the child turns 18, unless a student or disabled.
