England Cricket Captain ???

PostAuthor: Gozzo » August 4, 2008, 5:50 pm

On the same day England lost both Test and One Day cricket captains.
When I say lost I mean they both resigned from their respective teams.
Paul Collingwood and ( stevie ray ) Vaughn don't want the job, so it seems. Looks like a South African/Englishman will take over.

Does nobody want the job?

Just about every Aussie cricket player would dream of one day captaining their country. The TOP job.!

I guess it must be the stress involved that scares them off.

It gets worse Gozzo. A couple of weeks ago the poms picked a fast bowler to play in a test match against South Africa completely out of thin air.

From memory he played a few games of grade cricket in Oz, and then some county games in Pommyland. I am not sure whether he was even good enough to play for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield.

I guess that's one way to (hopefully) improve performance - give the skipper's jobs to a South African. :D

Those who can do the job better, please step forward, those who cannt please be quiet. I saw the news this morning, people are already knocking this chap, and he has not even had a tst match yet.
For those of you who are unaware of just plain forgetful, in the light of GB's history many people from around the world can claim UK citizenship due to our imperial past, so from whateve countryhe may have originally come from he can be british, name is nothing look at the weird names some so called americans have ( like the governer of california, for example.

This is worth looking at - the record of English captains since 1977.

Daily Telegraph

Too often England pick the best player in the team to be captain and I fear that is their tactic again with Pietersen. The best player doesn't make the best captain (as Mike Brearley so clearly shows). Often the players' form also goes down hill with the additional strain of being the captain as well. Then you end up with a so, so captain & player!!! :(
All that being said I am personally struggling to see who they could possibly use instead of Pietersen. Good luck to him & the team...

It seems a million light years away since we won the Ashes in 2005.I'd say that now we are probably on a par with the West Indies and better than only New Zealand,Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
Australia,South Africa and Sri Lanka on a different level to us.We could probably give India & Pakistan a reasonable match.
Yes,who would be the alternative to Pieterson as captain ? Strauss, maybe, but not 100% sure of his place.Flintoff is only just coming back and blotted his copybook before,Cook not experienced enough yet.
A strange decision also to replace Duncan Fletcher as coach with Peter Moores when Tom Moody was available.

No doubt its a pretty sad state of affairs.
I think Strauss was the logical choice for the new skipper as he seems to have regained his form.
As regards a new coach I would like to see Tom Moody but dont know if he is available now ??
But England seem further than ever behind the top cricketing countries.....India and South Africa.
Whats happening to Aussie cricket ? You look at their team and theres Katich,Ponting,Haddin,Lee and
Johnson but precious little else.
The balance of power has definitely swung this year. Not a bad thing as it gets a bit predictable with the same country dominating all the time.

Please hurry up, My cricket season starts this weekend. Thank you.
