Entering USA on tourist visa

PostAuthor: bamakmak » October 8, 2007, 11:41 am

I am bringing my TW to the USA this December on a tourist Visa. This is my first time to take her to the U.S. and have a few questions.

Upon arrival, am I allowed to be with her to help answer questions when she gets passport clearance? Once she is checked through, I would then go through the USA citizen passport clearance.

It is my understanding that they will stamp the length of stay when arriving (up to six months). Is it an automatic six months?

Other than the passport and Visa, what other documentation will they request? For example, a copy of the roundtrip airline itinerary, etc.

Any insights and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you have Visa issued by the US Embassy here in Thailand and her Thaipassport is stamped with her travel Visa to the US.

ok...
according to her...
You should not need any other paperwork other than passport and visa.
US Immigration normally will not allow more than one at a time up to the counter, no if's and or butts...and can get rather nasty about it. You can always ask or tell them she "no habla"..see what happends.
Just DO NOT PISS 'EM OFF or give 'em reason to mess with you.
She may get somewhat of a hassle right now, i.e, questions 'bout if she is here to work..don't want to scare you if any way but mine was pulled out and removed into an office where she was "asked" more questions about her trip here, checked her purse for airline ticket, credit card, who knows what else...
This was last year in Seattle. This time thru SFO and all she was asked was "here to visit?" Visa stamped and no other probs, and with a warm "Welcome to the United States", heck, I don't even get that anymore, but has a prievious ICE stamp already.
Just be prepared for a headache..immigration is the tops of the list on the political front here right now..

Thanks everyone for the info. I was stumped trying to use the Delphi forum that Stan gave and appreciate BM for providing the revised link. I also appreciate the first-hand experience described by Maligator. At least it gives me a head's up.

We'll be going through LAX and my connecting flight is the next day - so should have plenty of time to deal with any hassles with immigration.

Why Glendale? That is where I currently live and retired from the City of..
What is here that you want them to suffer so much for? What did they do to you that would cause you to be so mad at them to send them here?
Heat?
F*ck yeah! Lots of it here...this year over 100 days straight of 110 degrees plus. Yeah, it's a dry heat, but it is a very hot fuc*in' oven type heat. I was born here, and cannot stand the heat. To hot to enjoy it. Ya just cook!
Think Udon without the humidity and twice the heat. Don't know which is worse...but at least there are a billion swimming pools here.
Phoenix and the metro area ( includes Phx, Tempe, Avondale, Goodyear, Peoria, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, El Mirage, Fountain Hills ) has grown too large.
To be honest with ya, I just retired in June as a Glendale Police Officer.
Tell 'em to move to Prescott or Williams or Sedona...Phoenix is just Los Angeles with cactus, and Glendale is the ONLY city in the nation to have a prison gang named for it..and one of the most violent too.

Spoke with Eddie at Nong's Ribs. He said he was told by a TSA employee after going through the passport check-in at Anchorage that he AND his TW could both go together through the U.S. citizen passport lane. This despite the fact that she has a Thailand passport.

Can anyone confirm that this is possible? If so, it will make traveling to the U.S. much more convenient.

TSA does not work for immigration. Screeners & bag checkers only. Completely seperate.
Ask a US immigration officer which will be posted by the walk up area.
Each day, every hour is different.
Stevens Airport is quiet compared to LAX as far as passenger flow goes. SO they afford to skip some of the rules...sometimes.
As I said earlier...they can be very very "uptight", especially when 4 international flights arrive at once.
Just ask. They will either tell you "yeah" or or just look at you as if you are stupid.
