The GBP is currently around the 48-49 baht mark, but the good news is that since the last UK budget it has started to head in the right direction and has finally started moving up against the baht.

It will be nice to see it get back to 55-60 in the not so distant future.

As for the best rates around town, well all of the banks offer very similar exchange rates, give or take a satang or 2, so there is no real preference as to the 'best' rates here.

nice if you can get it
..but if you have money in a UK bank and use your debit card to take it out in a ATM you have to pay the fees...AND when i last took money out the UK bank gave me 39 baht £ when it was showing 47 in thailand.
Very expensive experience..
best way to do it is..get a fairfx currency card..load it via internet from your debit card..all done in a few minutes when you register with them..you get fairfx rate which is the same as thai bank and only pay 1% fee on whole amount..its saved me loads of money.

Ah, that sounds nasty Frank, I have to say that I have always been with Nationwide in the UK using their Flex Account, no withdrawal fees and the exchange rate is very similar to the local banks, the last withdrawal I made I got just over 46 and the official bank rate here was a tad under 47, so much easier to swallow.

As for the 150 baht ATM withdrawal fee, I do believe you can make a saving on this by using the AEON bank ATM in the Big Jieng (Tesco) complex ;), where I think it is only 40 baht or thereabouts.
