Fantasy Football

PostAuthor: Brian Davis » July 21, 2008, 8:52 pm

I'm not certain if any members were involved last season but....
as the new English football season approaches, fans may be interested in a bit of fun playing a fantasy football game.
I'd recommend http://fantasy.premierleague.com/ which appears to have been set up for the new season, reflecting changes to the Clubs, transfers to date etc.
As a matter of principle, last year I tried to form a team avoiding any players from the 'big boys'. Not surprisingly, perhaps, I was bottom half of the league, but anyone who didn't have the points gained by Ronaldo in his line up was never gonna be up there anyway.
Some entusiastic guy(or lady) may even want to establish e.g The Farang Udon League, FU for short!
Over to you for suggestions.

Good idea Brian. The FU league. Has good ring to it. :D

Only problem I can foresee is separating the FU league players from the main site. Will take a bit of time for someone to undertake that job.

Maybe you could have an FU Prediction League where you predict the scores in the Premiership each week ?
You could have points scored for the correct score, number of goals and correct result.
For example you could get 6 points for the correct score,1 point for each goal you predict and 2 points for the correct result (home win/away win/draw).

You predict say,Portsmouth 4 Arsenal 2......
Actual score is Portsmouth 2 Arsenal 0....
You would score 0 for correct score,2 points for the two goals and 2 points for the correct result (home win)....TOTAL 4 POINTS.

But say you predict Everton 2 Liverpool 2 (example for diplomatic reasons, obviously :D )
Actual score IS Everton 2 Liverpool 2...
You would score 6 points for the correct score,4 points for the four goals and 2 points for the correct result (draw).....TOTAL 12 POINTS.

Maybe something along those lines,as it would be less time consuming for someone to set up,but feel free to have your own ideas.

Personally, I like that idea too. I can visualise those of you who are Udon based calculating the points over a pint or two(equivalent) somewhere.

I haven't yet set up my team in the Fantasy League, but seem to recall an option for setting up your own competition within that. I'll have to give it another look.

But perhaps we should wait to see the interest first?

Perhaps an incentive? Sponsorship to be obtained from Littlewoods(do they still do the pools back home?)! And, in the (black) humour which fans of my team enjoy/endure, I've already figured the following prizes.

Winner - A one week Soi 7 Free Entertainment Voucher, with AEK Udon
on standby.

Runner -up - A one week Soi 7 Free Entertainment Voucher.

Booby prize(no pun intended) - A one week Soi 7 Free Entertainment Voucher + Free Cremation.

Brian, I've registered on the fantasy league out of my own interest, even if we don't get a FU league started.

I see there is a facility for private leagues, but cannot see on the website how to do this!

We ran a "score prediction" game last season, with a monthly winner. It seemed to go down quite well, and gave everyone involved a reason to watch games like Fulham v Bolton or Sunderland v Chelsea. If it hadn't been for the predictions nobody would have bothered to watch games like that.
If anyone want's a copy of the exell sheet PM me.

I think I've sus'd out how to organise a private league on Fantasy Premier League.

Looks like someone needs to organise a team first, then has the option of starting a private league. I don't mind being guinea pig to get the ball rolling, if enough people are interested.

Count me in guys. Being an Aussie I don't get to know all the players names all that well but I'll have a go. I'm not sure exactly how it works so I'll sit back and listen to the experts and learn as I go.

It's not easy keeping to the 100k limit. I just did a brief outline of a team and had to drop Torres for a cheaper forward so I could get a full team!!!

Is he really worth that much? I guess so because I wanted him in the team. :-k

Yeah, I would be willing to give it a go.
Although past experiences lead me to request what the "booby" prize is... :D :D :D

Glad to have you on board.

A word of warning. It's not a 5 minute job selecting a team. The 100k spending max and 3 players max from each team makes it tricky.

I'll wait until the start of Aug before I enter a team and start up a league. That will give everybody about 2 weeks to register a team before the season starts on the 16th. I think you need to have the private league code to be able to belong to it.

I will send a PM to anyone who has not registered an interest by the beginning of Aug and who is a regular contributor to the football threads.

Just for research purposes, when picking defenders for example, should you pick a left back and a right back. You know what I mean. Specialist position players. Will that be crucial to the results. I've no idea also. Any hints will help. :?
