The boss man of Udon Thani , Balinyapohn Poowat Jarh Looc has ordered that when referring to us husbands of Thai wives, all official communications, newspapers, TV etc are to refer to us as Udon Thani Son-in Laws., not as farangs anymore.
This is a small but significant step into our acceptance and intergration into the local community. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say thank you and we are delighted to be considered part of the Udon Thani family.

Val, I wholeheartedly endorse your comments.

I would like to add that it represents the way that I have always been treated when visiting my wife's village and I hope that I always properly reciprocate the way I have received.

Truth is Val we are very lucky here, we may get charged extra by indiviuals but it's not an officfal policy by any means. I try to participate in any of the Thai Son in Law events that I can have ridden the bike twice in parades now, the evnt as Ban Chaing was a Thai Son in Law event and we were treated wonderfuly even ended up with two small presents from going to that event.

I think it is up to us to give them the same support they give us.

We are much more recognized a a benefit to the community here then in most places.

This is really great news to us all who have TW's and residing here in Udon Thani. Being more part of the community and being accepted as part Udon Thani is a big step, both for the Thai community and for the Son-in-Laws of Udon Thani. I was lucky to participate in the Son-in-Law festivities last year and proud to say my TW and I came in 3rd in the contest they had. We may see more changes as the years go by and hopefully being accept by most of the Thais here in Udon Thani as part of the community. I get that feeling when I walk about near Nong Prajak Park with the greetings I get each morning. Most of the people here in the Bannon area know me pretty well.

Now it's up to us as Son-in-Laws of Udon Thani to return the respect that has been shown to us by this announcement. By setting good examples and showing respect will help us even further our acceptance in the community.

Ray, Jim and Val have really said it all, just wanted to add my thoughts and comments to thread. Would be nice to hear from those who also have TW's or TG's.

It's great news and a step in the right direction.
I agree with Cliff I get the same feeling of community here in the Banchang Soi's with the greetings. It does make up for the overcharging stallholders of Ban Hoy market.

That is a good start Val. This is being done in another province I think Buriam. I know some fo the folks will scoff at this initally but in the end I feel it will benefit all who come later. Putting a good foot forward is always good for the soul.
