Fire at Steve's Bar 29th Jan 06

PostAuthor: lee » January 30, 2006, 12:43 pm

Last night I learned that Steve's Bar on Prajak Road caught fire yesterday morning. I believe the fire started in the kitchen and spread through the building, fire trucks were called out to extinguish the blaze. I think the fire spread to Mojo's Bar too but I don't know the full details. Both bars had the shutters down last night but the Horseshoe Bar, next door to Steve's, was open for business as usual.

This is really sad news for both bar owners, especially at a busy time of the year. I hope that that this was not too serious and they can get back to business as soon as possible.

Does anyone have anymore details?

The fire started at 5am Sunday, according to the staff if started in the back, in the kitchen, probably from electric failure. I was in the restaurant myself yesterday afternoon, the building is intact and most of the interior seems to be ok, but it will need a huge clean up and repainting. Some of the interior also need to be changed.

Anyway, one of the staff told me they will probably try to sell beer from a cooler at the outside bar in the mean time when renovation is going on. If that happens, please drop by for a beer to cheers em` up a little bit, they sure can need it in times like this.

Mojos has sufferd smoke damage I believe, that is why he is closed at the moment, The horseshoe bar escaped untouched and is currently the only bar in the block of three open - which as mentioned is bad timing as its busy with all the parachutists in town. I was there today and the whole inside has been emptied and is looking rather black (as it would do).
Sad for sure.
