Firefox crashed..(message)

PostAuthor: beer monkey » November 18, 2008, 6:36 pm

Lots of times recently in the last week or so i get this message when closing 'Firefox'....I did send a few reports off to them as it was an option...never had a reply, but whats the problem..? anyone else had this..?
Never lost anything from it and has not caused me a problem.

Thanks.

I'm using XP with Firefox 3.0.4 and I never have a minute's trouble. It seems the marriage between Vista and Firefox 3.0 isn't a happy one. No doubt you Googled and it is certainly a common fault and it seems Mozilla have not tackled it yet.

Firefox Crashing

Did you have this problem before version 3 came out? Maybe uninstall 3.0 and go back to 2.0? http://www.filehippo.com/download_firefox/3517/

Or use Safari or Chrome until Mozilla sort it.

Ahhhh no i didn't think to googgle it IA, it don't do it all the time..and no i never had the bug on older versions.
And thanks for the link, have had a look already...might just put up with it till it sorts itself, thats probably why they not replied as they got a massive back log of 'crash reports' to get through.

I am no guro but I do know I will not install a beta program and expect it to work well
so IMO vista is still in a beta program and will remain there until windows 7 is released
so my advice is to go back to XP and install fire fox it works very good in XP but do not install
there Beta because then your asking for trouble just my opinion which is meaningless

If you uninstall and then reinstall you may lose all your information - bookmarks, saved passwords, etc etc.

I use this program http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ which creates a backup of all your user data in both Firefox and Thunderbird (for address list, saved emails etc etc).

You can then restore everything if either program crashes, or you want to reinstall.

The uninstallation is not remove your profile... It's still there...
If I remember right (I'm not using Windows anymore.),
the Firefox's profile is in C:\Documents...\Application Settings\Mozilla ...
(It is hidden folder so you need to turn on "Show hidden folder" in Control Panel > Folder Options)
Just delete the Mozilla folder...

No need to uninstall Firefox... after you delete the profile folder, launch Firefox and it will create your new profile.

You can use MozBackup in jackspratt's post above to backup your bookmarks berfore delete the profile folder...

I'm using Firefox 3.0.6 and this evening this same problem raised it's ugly head. Did xcession's cure work BM? I'll give that a go and if that doesn't work I might give Opera or Chrome another whirl.

A message like this has popped up when I use firefox with the high school computers where I work from Monday to Friday. It usually takes place with youtube videos, and goes something like this the next time the computer fires up: An error caused Firefox to crash. Do you want to return to the former site when the crash occurred or do you want to log-on to Firefox again?

My feeling was that it has something to do with the Toronto District School Board which has very tight firewalls.

Another problem that is experienced at the high school is that I can look at the Udonmap threads, but I am unable to log on. Again this might be owing to the firewalls set up by the TDSB.

None of these problems occur when using the university computers where I teach on Saturdays.
