I should add immediately that this is an article in the Daily Telegraph 06/12/07 and addressed to the UK. However having "flu doubles the immediate risk of having a heart attack or stroke"
"Flu dislodges the fatty deposits that build up in the arteries, leaving them free to move around the body and get stuck in the brain or heart, where they block the blood flow"

Prevention IS better than cure and those over 60, men and women, should have their blood screened for a Full Blood Count,(FBC), Fasting Blood Sugar or HbA1c,Liver Function Test, Serum Lipids( Cholesterol level), Erthrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and Urea and Electrolytes (U&E) once a year as a preventative measure.
There are also many other things you can do to help prevent heart attacks and a stroke.
