Thank you for the effort Valentine.
The response you received does not come as a suprise.
I have often quizzed my wife, a middle class university educated thai, on why they put up with that sort of crap. A blank no comment look used to come back, but lately I realise that she woke up long ago as she is now married to this farang and living in his country.
While I some what agree Doc that one should not change the cultures of another country I think that it would be in the best interests of thai women if change did come that their rights were more in line with western cultures. But that is for thai women to change through their own education and protest, not farang men. I often ask thai women in our rather large thai female community here if they prefer living here or would rather be back in Thailand. Most would prefer to live here in New Zealand but it generally comes with one provisio - if they could have their daughters here as well, then they would never go back to Thailand. They very rarely request their sons to be here. When one sees the value they place on their daughters here (the want for them to gain higher educations and have falang husbands who value them) it is not hard to figure what they think about thai treatment of their women.
