Free wireless internet at Bkk airports

PostAuthor: wokkawombat » April 15, 2009, 10:29 am

Having just become the proud owner of a lap top with wireless capabilities I now wish to know where I can use it on my return journey to Udon.

Thanks

irish clock, with streaming world news and/or footie/sports on the wide screen tv with best background music of any establishment. some of the best food and bevs. of course. someone mentioned UD center has free wifi, along with the coffee/beverage shop over by library, near pr. prajack statue circle. looks comfy there. i'll be out testing the waters myself, new portable one coming shortly. let you know what i find out, or visa versa. outside venue would be interesting, was nice when nong's had it. comfy place to sit.

good luck, keep us informs, ditto. 8)

If you remember what I mentioned to you, you still need to get a wifi antenna that goes into your USB, as the laptops built in antenna is worthless.

the linksys: WUSB54Gv4 is a good strong one
and the hawking HWUG1 is another good one

wifi at suvarnabhumi is not free

When swampy first opened it was free sadly not now, though on a mac TT you can get three networks there with a full signal.

I have tried for free wi fi at Swampy on my last 2 trips without success. I then adjourn to the ground floor cafe, and have a few Leos and a feed :guiness:

However, others have reported having luck by getting themselves as close as possible to the various airport lounges belonging to the airlines.

Good luck.

is there that much advantage. mine pick up quite a few at times, most secure, but in bangkok, i'll 2-6 at any one time. some stronger signals or more choices would be nice, but for myself, not really worth the effort or expense, as AIS is always available and more time than i need. though free wifi is always welcome. though now having more lappys with i'm sure more use, may need to upgrade my hours or figure out that home network thing soon. 8)

very big difference, you get 1 or 2 bars with the built in one, and if you switch to:
a linksys G
or a Hawking G
or a superpass ralink chipset G 38dbi @ 5 watts
you will see a big difference in how many stations and bars are increased.

like I stated in my other posts about wifi, I can reach a rahjapat wifi network from 1/8 miles away.

As far as I can see in the Udon area it's only GRPS, haven't come across any 3G connections yet on my phone in this area. GRPS works reasonable for internet connections, but slow, I use it only if I'm away from home and really, really, need to connect to my email, price is reasonable.

Within Udon Thani city there are lots of free WiFi options, many people/company's/shops apparently have an ADSL WiFi router setup without any password or security. Before we installed ADSL in our own home I just used to put the laptop in the car and park it in one of the many spots with a good connection, just drive along and very soon you catch many open networks.

I tried to connect to free wi fi at Swampy yesterday - no luck.

I would have tried my own suggestion re setting up near the Lounges, but it was not feasible because I would have been in the main shopping alley on level 4. Also there are no power points available, and my battery is b*ggered. :(

Much easier to park my azz at the Irish Clock and enjoy free wifi and downloading copious amounts of ice cold beer ;)
