Sad. Only 1 death though it could have been much worse. Hope the bridge will be fixed proper and work will continue. Always makes me think of the construction workers I see using bamboo scaffolding. I swear it will collapse any second.

I was commenting on Thai building practices in general rather than this specific case.

I believe a lot of construction projects do slow down somewhat during the rainy season as many of the skilled workers return home (many to Isaan) to help with the rice crops.

Unfortunately, I know of a lady in Udon whose son was one of those knocked into the river, when the crane collapsed and as of yesterday was still unaccounted for :(

I assume Thailand has no "search and rescue" group? I hope everything goes as well as it can.

With the strength of the Mekong at the moment and the fact many Thais cannot swim means that chances are very slim of many survivors.

I have lived on Samui and Phuket and most of the fishermen on the boats could not swim. :(
